I seem to be stuck on level 35. I have no problem obtaining the premier cinema, inspected and owned lots requirements, but the $10 million in cash is causing me difficulties. The closest I have been able to come is a little over $8 million. If anyone has any hints ....
After you have the blueprints for the sawmill, workshop and bank the levels are much easier. I start out building the sawmill which allows you to purchase supplies at half price. Once that is completed I build the workshop which allows you to "hire" additional laborers at half price and inspect homes. Once a house is inspected you don't have to worry about repairs. The next step I take is to build the most expensive house I can and inspect it upon completion. Once that is completed I save up supplies until I have enough to build the bank. When the bank is completed I donate the interest so I don't have to pay property taxes. After that I start building and upgrading as quickly as possible.
Keep in mind that when you are instructed to build "premier" homes or businesses that they must be on premier lots.
Also pay attention to the upgrade requirements for the lots. Some don't require upgrades while others require three or four.
Hope this helps ...

I am now on level 19 and for those having isssues on 17 & 18 -
I have never built a workshop - Yes the houses need repairs but who cares. I typically will build an estate, fully upgrade, build another, etc till I have about 4 fully upgrade estates racking up rental dollars. Once you add a couple workers you can start building mansions.
Doing this I have always had enough time at the end not only to complete the level but to buy a couple extra houses to add to career earnings.
-
I did not seem to have a problem with level 25. I wish there was a way to revisit a level and I could tell u exactly how I did it. In general I would build the sawmill first, then two estates fully upgraded. Next I would build workshop and upgrade workers, get permits and inspect. I never have built a bank. From here I would just start saving to build the most expensive house I could. Anytime there was an objective to require you to build something like a muesum, smaller house I would build them last as they do not generate income.
-
hey guys what I do on any level to get a "jumpstart" is build the biggest house i can on an empty lot. This may require getting more workers right up front, then upgrade as much as I can with the available materials. Then just sell that house... should make you some good money quick to allow you to buy materials build some buildings and give you a headstart towards your goal.

Level 35
Build estate upgrade 1 start, sell
Build Saw Mill
Buy 5000 materials, build workshop
Train 6 workers
Build estate & sell
Build castles on all lots except 1 for the marina upgrade & inspect them all
Build bank and donate as soon as 1 castle is complete
Sell 1 castle (for cash to buy lots)
demolish small houses as soon as you have the materials/workers available to build castle on lot
or when they need repairs.
Buy the blueprint and build marina
When you have met all requirements except cash, you can start selling your castles. Wait until you have about $10 million cash though.
I have passed this level, but have not aced it yet.
Would appreciate comments on how to ace last 7 levels - 29 - 35.
-
to ace level 29 you need to buy everything and demolish it at the end. build and sell to start for extra cash, sell one lot while building first home(estate), then the sawmill, workshop followed buy bank, hire 6 guys while bank is building then build Castles....buy the small homes and demolish to build castles and banks...get 3 or 4....they still generate income while you demo homes later. upgrade everything you have that is estate or higher once you own everything start the demolition derby, be sure to have 23 or more workers to get the job done quickly throughout the entire game but especially at the end demo from smallest to largest and the banks last...start with the donating one.....hope this helps.
-
OK, I am currently at the $1,900,000,000 career earnings levels and am currently on level 35 for the fourth time.
What I have found is that it is easier to build any house (Estate) and DO NOT upgrade it but sell it straight away. By selling it straight away you get the full asking price whereas if you do one upgrade and then sell you dont get the full asking price.
Then I will build the sawmill and then buy 2500 pieces of lumbar...then building and fully upgrade an Estate so you are earning rent...build a workshop...buy enough workers to be able to build either a mansion or castle...fully upgrade...once this is fully upgraded buy a bank and make it a donating bank...from then on just keep building castle...with the exception of level 34...In level 34 make sure that you build and fully upgrade FIVE mansions because at some point you will be asked to do so...from then on in level 34 just build and fully upgrade castles...I also end up buying enough workers to have two teams of 9 so you can keep buildings.
On level 34 as you get closed to the deadline you may find that you will have to sell no more than two of your castles to get over the line.
Also, at some point build a second bank so as to gain the interest as well as I find that this does help, but not by much.
At some point I will do a complete step-by-step walkthrough.
-
If u get a star in every level, you get a new blueprint to use,
...well I need 8 more stars,
I am finding it impossable to complete level 24 with bonus time,
Goal: 5 colonials, 1 four star Estate,and $2,000,000!
I guess I am looking for a walkthrough or cheat!
....By the way, anyone already get the bonus blueprint?
-
For any level, I buy some materials and hire workers if needed to build the biggest house possible and upgrade it as much as possible. Then SELL it, and take whatever they offer! You now have money to build your workshop and more large houses. Then I build the sawmill and bank. You might have to sell another house to raise more money. But, build the largest house you can, upgrade it as much as you can, then inspect it.
-
and another thing..
you should build a sawmill, a workshop and a bank(donate).. they're investments and if you don't build them in most levels then you will never get a star.. they're part of the game..
i do every level like this once you have the mansion blueprint(i think the levels before that should'nt be a problem):
-build the most expensive house
-and upgrade it one time.
-then sell.
-buy 1000 wood
-build a sawmill
-buy 5000 wood
-build workshop
-train 3 workers
-build two or three mansions and upgraid them
-build a bank (donate)
-build another couple of mansions
-do what you need to do to complete the level
it's worked for me in the whole game (after you have the castle blueprint you build castles, not mansions.. but you all know that!)
exept in level 33..
hope i've helped some people

gold star on every level. here's how to do it on the upper levels the commands overlap. do them as soon as you can. get as many things going as you can. time is money :P
build estate
build sawmill
upgrade estate as soon as sawmill is complete
buy discounted material, as much as possible (75k)
build workshop
sell estate as workshop is being built
start building another estate
train 3 workers as soon as workshop is complete
train 3 more workers
buy as much material as you can
build castle
sell 2nd estate
sell castle - this will give you cash to work with for awhile
build another castle
then it's just a cycle of building castles and upgrading them as you build more castles and buy houses and demolish them to make more castles. castles, castles, castles.
the most important things are:
do everything at once
upgrade and build as much as you can at the same time. this means you MUST keep buying material and hiring workers. I usually end up with around 30 workers or more. get the workers and get the things done. you want to be upgrading, building, inspecting and demolishing all over the place. you need workers!
keep the material coming in. always have more than you are using. once you sell that first castle then you can almost just keep it coming in as fast as you can get back to the materials tab. you'll be insanely busy trying to do upgrades and build at the same time.
sell right away to make some cash. don't wait for rent to make cash. if you are low on funds, sell. i usually end up selling one or two fully upgraded castles.
i've noticed that you will not be taxed on your buildings if you are upgrading , selling, building or inspecting. keep them moving without a lapse. once you got a castle approaching 4 stars, then it's time to build the bank. that should be building at about the same time that the 4 star castle is being inspected. set the bank to donate.
after the first castle, upgrade your castles to 4 stars and then inspect them. inspect only to the ones you want to keep as rental properties. if you have to sell another castle, sell one that is upgraded to 4 stars that hasn't been inspected yet.
build the required buildings (firestation, cinema, marina) LAST. they don't generate income. don't waste your money building these things until you have plenty to spare.
as a desperate measure, you can always demolish your sawmill and your workshop to make room for more buildings. don't demolish the sawmill until you have all the discounted material you need. don't demolish the workshop until you have completed all your inspections and have plenty of workers. this is usually one of the last things i do, if i'm cutting it real close on time.
demolish those little houses you buy first thing. get them outta there, so you can build something to make you some money. don't wait unless you absolutely have to.
once you have some material and workers, don't waste your time building anything but castles (unless, of course, it's that one level where they want you to have 5 mansions)
i'm sure i have more to say, but i gotta end it somewhere.
hope this helps

Here's what worked for me on Level 11:
- Build Tudor, upgrade to 3 stars and sell when less than 1 other properties are listed. You should get $185,000+.
- Buy blueprint, 2 workers and 1,000 materials.
- Build Estate, 1,000 materials & 2nd Estate. Buy open lot, if available.
- Upgrade Estates 1 star each, buy 500 materials & upgrade 2 & 3 stars, buy 2nd open lot (if available), 1,000 mat & upgrade Estate to 3rd star.
- Build Tudor, 1,000 mat, upgrade to 3 stars, build anything (I built another Tudor).
Hope this works for you too! Good luck.
-
Here's my Level 12:
- Build Tudor & upgrade to 3 stars, sell with 0 properties listed, you'll get $195,000.
- Buy 2500 materials, build workshop and then buy 2 workers.
- Buy 2500 materials, build 4 estates, upgrade to 1 star each.
- Inspect 4 Estates
- Along the way a rambler should come up for sale, buy it, demolish and build Estate, and sell it.
This should finish up with plenty of time left over while meeting all goals.
Good luck!
If I get any other levels, I'll post them up to Level 14. You can get a walkthrough for Levels 15-35 at Build-a-Lot walkthrough 15-35
-
Ok, here's my Level 13 (just completed):
- Build Estate, upgrade 2 stars
- Buy Rambler, 250 materials, upgrade 3 stars & sell with 0 properties listed $65,000 net.
-1000 materials, build 2 Estates, upgrade one to 3 stars.
-500 materials, upgrade 2nd Estate to 2 stars, 2 rent cycles will allow you to buy 1000 materials, then upgrade 2nd Estate to 3 stars.
-Build Tudor & upgrade to 2 stars, buy 1000 materials, upgrade to 3rd star.
- Build 2nd Tudor, upgrade to 3 stars then buy 1000 materials.
- Buy blueprint & build the bank.
- Buy next small property for sale (I had Colonial).
It just finished the level for me under EXPERT.
Good luck!

This is my strategy for any of the higher levels. Using this I have passed out from each level without having any problems.
1. Build the costliest house you can build at your first turn (preferably estate).
2. Build a saw mill. (this has to be 2nd step u do because the next step is going to require more materials no matter what u build so better get the materials cheap)
3. Get more materials (u should be able to get 2500 for now) and build a warehouse and bank. Turn the bank into charitable institute as soon as it is ready (Because the next turn will bring in the tax officers)
4. While your warehouse is in construction, you still have labor left, so upgrade your estate to one star (this helps because otherwise it will get damaged needing repairs in the next step).
5. Now you r ready to roll. You can upgrade your estate upto 3 stars or get more labor and build a mansion and upgrade to 3 stars in any order.
6. Once this is done money will just keep rolling in enough amounts to keep you busy throughout the level. Go on to build more buildings and buy more plots. If empty plots are not available, buy the smaller houses and demolish them. I never demolish estates or costlier buildings as the buying price is too high that it will give me a loss if i am to demolish and build something else on its place.Unless absolutely required of course.
7. To win a level, u should basically be never idle throughout the level, that is to say, you shouldn't have to wait for enough money at any point of time. I usually don't sell a building until the last quarter of the game but if u r short of money at any time and see u r going to be idle then sell off your first house.
Some Extra Tips
1. At the end of the game I will have around 15 - 18 workers hired out ... no specific time when u should be hiring new workers, except 2 soon after the workshop is ready to build a mansion and 2 more after upgrading the mansion and estate to get on with the castles. Once I have 3-4 castles in my hand, I'll start getting the rest of the workers as and when needed.
2. Also it is a good idea to start your upgrades as soon as the rent is received ... this way the upgrading is done before the collection of the next rent and you continue to get the rents ... I use it specially at the beginning of the level hence never fall short of money.
3. Rake in maximum possible rent and have as many buildings upgraded and done by the first half of the level. Then at the second half you can start building the special buildings or collecting enough cash as required by the game. If you need to collect a lot of cash, you may consider selling your houses towards the end of the game ... do this towards the end so that you continue to receive rents till the end of the game.

ei guys i think ur problems are so simple..
from level 20 to 35 i think
this how i do it. .
build the biggest house the one u can afford, upgrade or just simple sell it..
buy 5000 materials . .
train 2 workers. .
build saw mill. .
build the largest house .
build the bank and dont forget to click donate . .
then build another largest house. .
then build workshop to make all payables less 5% heheh
then build your houses . .
dont forget to buy materials time to time. .
-
On the final few levels I found it helpful to build 2 banks. Donate one and do not donate the other! You will receive intrest from the one you do not donate. Once you get up to $500,000 that starts becoming a substantial amount of money. Also, make sure you build the sawmill right away as it makes the materials far cheaper! If you get behind building your workshop and donating your bank, just put your houses up for sale. They will need repairs, nor will you be taxed while they are up for sale, in my experience. Once you get back on track, simply un-list them.
-
You have to complete a level at a much faster pace to get stars. I have stars on all levels except level 35. I was so close yesterday. Maybe it will happen today. The only advice I can give is strategy, strategy, strategy. You have to plot our what you are going to do first instead of going in blind. If you are failing over and over again do something different the next time. I find that building the most expensive house that I can afford and selling it helps me get the cash I need much faster.
-
the game is very simple. just start by building a mansion or a estate or anything that you can at that moment. upgrade it to 2 stars then sell it. with the money by materials. build a workshop first, then sawmill. then construct a mansion or a castle it depends on what level you are, the ideea is to built the most expensive house you can. then built another one and so on until you don`t have enough materials.then wait because you will have enough money to buy anything. when a property is for sale buy it. it`s very simple the game but very cool also. ;0)

1. Search for the file buildalot.ini - don’t forget to check “search system folders” and “search hidden files and folders” as well as “search subfolders”.
2. Double-click on the file and it should open up in a plain text editor like notepad.
3. Find your profile name. That’s the name you gave the game when you boot it up. Mine is angel. You only have to change values after [User 0] and before [User 1].
4. Now, look for “LevelStatus” followed by numbers. 0 means you haven’t played it yet, 2 means you’ve passed, 3 means you experted it. Change them all to 3.
5. Now look for “LevelNumPlays” and change all of those to 1’s.
6. Change all the “CityGift”s to 1’s as well.
7. Change all the “CasualLevelStatus”s to 1’s.
8. Save the file.
9. Close everything and open the game. Now, when you click on the main screen, you should be able to access all the missions as well as all the casual levels.
It is almost always better to flip your house at 2 stars than 3 stars if you want to just sell it.
4 Stars are more profitable on the smaller houses.
The percentage on the overall value of house that goes into rent increases when you add stars.
On a Tudor:
Base house: 3.16%
1 Star: 3.45%
2 Stars: 4.4%
3 Stars: 6.35%
On a Colonial and Tudor, flipping the house at 3 stars will gain you LESS net profit than if you did it at 2.
If you need to HAVE a specific house at the end of a scenario, it’s always cheaper to build your own than buy one.
The above applies to any house. Including lot fees.
For example, in the “build 5 Tudors” scenario, at basic (no discount) construction costs, building a Tudor costs $55K. If you bought it, it costs $150K. If you buy a Rambler, demolish it, and then build on top, it still only cost $80K. How does that work? When you buy a house, you’re paying $25K of it on the lot. So it’s only $25K extra to buy a house and demolish.
Always flip your first house. It’ll give you enough startup funds to pay for materials and whatnot. In later scenarios, keep in mind that the most logical progression is:
Build a Sawmill
Spend $75k on materials
Build a workshop
Build a bank, set it to donate
Hire a worker if you have to, and build the most expensive house you can afford.
upgrade the house to 2 stars if Rambler and mansion, 4 stars everything else if you can afford it. NEVER sell anything at 3 stars.
flip it
Buy materials at the cheapest bulk rate
Hire some workers and build the most expensive houses you can
upgrade those to 4 stars if you plan to keep them. Rent is proportional to the money you spend on it by %.
Upgrade and inspect houses in between rent periods. As soon as that dollar sign goes cha-ching, click on upgrade. That should keep you from missing payments.
Now you have an access to all the missions. Can anyone here tell me the cheat codes for the unlimited money???
Thanks in advance. -angelwings

I have got all the expert levels on build a lot 1 ,and it said I had unlocked a new building to build on career mode. I went back on to level 35 did it again, had enough money to buy the blue print, but it would not let me buy it. Anyone had that problem. The building was called cost mart on level 35. Thanks

BUILD A LOT 2
Just finished level 34. It was tough, but not as touch as 33.
Here are some hints:
Build a Modern house 1st. Get 1 star and then sell it.
Once you sell it, get 9 workers and 5,000 building supplies.
In the meantime, build a warehouse and a recycle center and a garden center.
Once that is done, build a Villa
I built all my alike houses on the same row if possible. Once you have those up build the rest of the houses as palaces.
If you buy a house, tear it down and build a palace.
You need 5 parks - but just make sure they are between 2 houses so you maximize your points.
Once I did all this - I won the level. Always build a zen park - nothing lower.
One thing to remember, is you have to build fast. So, once you have enough money, hire 14 - 15 workers so they can be working on multiple houses.
When you get close to the end of the game, tear down your buildings, and put palaces in there instead because it hurts your points.
Good Luck!

Sabrina and anyone else who's stuck on level 33--the one with the cinema, of Build-a-Lot the original: This iscourtesy of hollister at http://www.casualgameguides.com/games/guide/post_discussion.cfm/gc_id&2803/game_id&2606/ . The trick to building up the $10 million is to NOT sell your new-built Castles except when you absolutely need the cash. Their rents are high enough that they build up a few million over time. Then as you approach the deadline, you build the cinema and sell off enough castles to get to $10m. This should leave you owning at least 8 lots as required.

I got Build A Lot when it first came out and then got stuck for a month trying to get expert/the gold star for level 14 and quit.
It is a year later, a new computer, a new download and stuck again at level 14. :'(
I start w/100k, 4 workers and 1k in materials. The goal is 5 (3star estates), 500k, no empty lots.
The only buildings you can make are the workshop and the bank (this is when you see the tax people for the first time - you cant do the donate yet), and the most expensive house you can make is the Estate.
pls pls pls help me. I can pass the level just not fast enuf to get the star.
thnx

to brenda...u probably couldnt inspect because u have to have a workshop to inspect..no workshop, no inspections... to anyone having trouble raising money (NOT RENTAL INCOME)...key is to build big, upgrade max and then SELL easy money.
me i'm stuck on...shoot i cant remember its like the first or second level in the last set...the one that you have to have all empty lots EXCEPT for the bank....i can get the money, only just barely, but i never have enough time to demolish everything..any tips?
-
Looks as if I have a slightly different strategy for the last five or so levels (I didn't read very carefully the last third of the comments):
(starting with 100 000 cash)
build a sawmill
build a workshop
buy 1000 materials
get 2 more workers
build a mansion.
Upgrade it a couple of times, then sell - and then you'll have about $650 000-700 000 to play around with.
This far, I managed to go through most of the levels on the first time (some on the second time). I'm now stuck at the last one. I'll try the build-a-castle-on-every-lot-as-soon-as-you-can strategy.
If you want to more escaping fun, try Escape the Museum 2 game.
does anyone know how to get through level 17 where you have to build seven mansions and get 100000$ - i keep running out of time.
