I like the concept, interesting design, and possibilities, but I can only guess at best and randomly try to use characters.
So far, seen yellow and blue "numbers" order must be blue, purple, grey, yellow. Used one on the "characters" i found in chiminey.
used 2 characters there. the long one, down in inventory is match !
Upper right is a key, but not working on box.
another key after i light a fire. not working on box ....
ho ! used key right of door on "cupboard"
got white paper and scissors there.
used match on paper got grey number.
Am i alone ?!
open box with scissors. got something like T letter.
used t on floor got purple number

liked it. i was affraid of these japanese characters, but open all in about item, and it's an easy one ;)
Nope! don't get it! lolol
got the inventory filled and all but the bottom three greyed out. no clue what to do now
correction, the second to the last row of items is all that is left unused. everything else is gone
okay i have a yellow 4 , a grey? 7, a blue 3 and the last i am not sure of
replaying to help ;)
last row are matches. above you got grey and purple numbers.

justput the symbols you've seen on door. did you use matches on paper to see grey number ?

the grey t is a seven according to the clock
don't have any but the seven and one left in inventory. and i am brain farting on how to use them lol

you should have left on inv. 2 white papers. One with grey t and other with purple line (talking about paper 4th row, not T shape from 2nd row)

i read your post for the order. so i am going on that
THINGS IN INVENTORY (from top to bottom)
1.scissors-------------------------------key
2.T shape thing (to open floor tile)-----key
3.fire/fuel ?----------------------------fire/fuel?
4.paper w/grey # (use matches)---------paper w/purple # (from where you used t shape thing)
5. matches.
I suppose that you have to SEE it ;)
It's on big "red thing" upper left corner (turn right when facing the door) !

i got out with the 2 papers. don't know why you can't escape; did you click on blue and yellow numbers ?

actually the yellow number from the clock is np0t clickable
no... i think it'a bug ? try to reload maybe ?

i can't use the matches... i put the second left icon above the matches in inventory in the fireplace... but i can't light it... i also have a key that i can't use and maybe a paper (beside the thing i put in fireplace)...

Character Room Escape
Dedicated to Drisana, who solved this on her own!
A clever idea -- all the items in the room (except the door) are formed by Japanese Kanji characters.
Where things weren't clear, I've looked up some of the characters, but may not be 100%!
To start, click the black box with 2 characters in it.
Note the inventory box on the right -- the 4-character block at the top is your "about item" button.
Look first at the white object above the left arrow.
-This is obviously a clock, and you can see the numbers from 1-12.
-Note that the "4" is yellow.
Back out.
Click on the door and then on the object next to the door.
-The red tells you the door is CLOSED.
-At the bottom are buttons that change the numbers above (1-9). (The starting character is zero.) So, you need to find a 4-digit code to exit.
-Back out.
Zoom the large characters on the wall (a picture?)
-Note the blue 3 (3 parallel lines).
-Back out
Zoom on the object under the picture.
This is a chest of drawers.
-Open the bottom drawer (the others are locked) and click on the object sticking out to take it.
-Highlight the object in inventory and click about item. (I think the white character is jar, the black is lamp oil).
-Click the "close" symbol upper right.
-Back out
Zoom on the object in the corner (a small table?)
-Pick up the white character sitting off-center.
-Open in inventory and click again to see a box of MATCHES!
-Back out
Go right.
(the small table is still in the corner)
Zoom on the big red object (made of wood).
-Zoom on the large characters at the bottom to see a BOX that is tied shut.
-At the upper left, some of the little white characters are different -- click them to see a clue.
-Open the clue to see 4 colored characters (blue, purple, gray, yellow)
-Back out
Go right.
Zoom on the large object in the center to see a fire place.
-Put your lamp oil/starter fluid on the logs.
-Light with a match to see FIRE!
-Back out
Zoom on object in right corner to see a large table.
-Zoom on the object on the table (flowers in a vase)
-Zoom on the flowers.
-Click on white object on bottom left. (blue is water)
-Open in inventory to see a key!
-Back out and go right.
(on left is large table, on wall is clock)
Zoom on floor panel.
-Take center white item (this is ice)
-Note smaller white item on left (can't take it yet)
-Back out and go right.
[Now you know where everything is, so I'll dispense with the details.]
-Open top drawer with key to get scissors!
-Use scissors to open box and get a T-shaped object. (maybe a SD?)
-Use T on object in floor panel to get a purple line (1)
-Put ice on fire, then matches -- fire goes out!
-Go away and come back, click on fire to find water and an object -- another key!
-Use second key on middle drawer to get a sheet of paper.
-Use matches on paper to get gray number 7.
-Go to door panel, enter the numbers according to the color clue, to get green OPEN.
Solution: blue=3, purple=1 gray=7, yellow=4

@Nokra, did you get far enough to see a key or the scissors in inventory?
If you were to do this in western letters, you might have a lit candle:
