To get fire, you have to use the key first.
Key comes from putting electrical cord on stereo and then put tape in.

combine hammer with the other metal thing, then hit the top of cb in bedroom. This gives u a hook. Use hook to get key from bathtub.
Now i dont know how to use the key
put key on heating plate. The key gets a new shape. This will fit on the door and OUT!!
Okay, I figured out the microwave puzzle. Use the spot marked X from the wine bottle as your starting part and make a path following the instructions you get from the tv in the bedroom.
(Don't put a dot on the starting point)

2x down
right
down
3x left
You'll get a chisel/screwdriver (?)
Finding the hook (hammer and chisel) the disappeared string will appear, so no restart needed :-)
Stuck with just yellow key and pop tart (used) in inventory. Thx for the hint for microwave (don't click starting square).
And out, thanks for the hint for putting key on stove. Mirror in bedroom never used.

I just got back to this game...left it for SD game
....and...I found a remote somewhere the first time I played but...don't see reference to it in the comments...and can't see it again!

Finally...out...the string disappeared on me the first time too....but avoided using it this time till I got the hook! Success!
Don't despair over dissappearing string, you do not have to restart just combine hammer and chisel and use in the proper place. The string and fishing hook appear combined ready for use in the bathroom. Enjoyed game but did not need to open lower drawer in bedroom. Needs debugging.

I haven't got out yet, but thanks to the above coments I might manage it writing this. I though it only polite to assemble all the help in one area ;)
Walkthrough part one:
[I've made hotspots bold, because they always elude me, haha, and I hate having surprises spoilt.]
Pressing Start gives you a small hallway with five yellow direction arrows.
True artists like clio_rose, nokra and myself are left-brained so click the LEFT arrow first =)
[I nearly typed clio_nose and rokra!!!]
This door brings you into the kitchen.
Zoom in on the kitchen sink and get a string. Back out and zoom the corner of the work surface which reveals a toaster, then the microwave just above there; neither of which you can do anything just yet.
The down bar to back out from the microwave view is barely visible against the white tiles, but it IS there!!!
Click an arrow to trun around and zoom in on the wine to see part of a code for the microwave. You know this because you recognise the 4x4 grid.
Other hotspots are the fridge-freezer door [needing a 4xdigit code] and the cooker hotplates
[needing a four colour code].
To exit the kitchen, click floor in front of the open door in the background.
This is the way to get out of all the rooms.
Click the highest arrow in the view to access the bathroom.
Click the basin and get a lightbulb. Back out.
Click the left side of the toilet to find a battery. Back out.
click the towel pile on the bath to find a power cable [top of screen]. Back out and turn round.
Click the bath plug hole to see a yellow key you can't reach.
Leave that room via the open door and go into the middle left room - the bedroom.
Hotspots are the mirror [no idea why yet], the window [which shows a shape series, half a clue for a code elsewhere], the television on the wall, for which you need a 5 colour code, and the chest of drawers, which has one more zoom spot for each drawer. The top drawer needs a ten letter word, and the lower one needs a 5xdigit code.
Turn around and click the drawers below the cupboard.
Here you need a four colour AND four shape code. The shape series in the window is the hint for these shapes.
Click the bedside lamp. This has no lightbulb, so, using your powers of deduction, use your bulb in it and see a 5xdigit code in yellow.
Back out, turn and use your code clue on the lower drawer.
The object you get is NOT chamois leather, or a handy patch for Hannibal Lecter's shirt. It's a piece of bread. You know where THAT wants to be!
Walkthrough part two:
Turn and head back to the kitchen [lowest left arrow from the hall view] and shove your bread in the toaster. Get it straight back out and notice the graffiti on the sad-looking morsel.
Click the open doorway to get right out.
Click the arrow that points to 1 o'clock to go into the living room.
First note the shelf colours - this is the colour clue for the shape/colour code in the bedroom.
The grey object is a stove/central heating boiler, which needs a key.
Click the globe, which has an island highlighted yellow. The name of this is ten digits long, so that will go in the top bedroom drawer.
The television requires a remote control [my 6 yr-old grandson calls that a "troll-a-mote" =) ]
Turn around and click the right side of the stereo unit. Zoom in on a spot just to the right, on the wall to discover where to use your power cable.
Woo-hoo! We have lift-off! But disappointingly, nothing else to do here yet, so click the armchair in the lower half of the view and find a lighter.
The tiny corner of windowsill in this view is also a hotspot, where you will find the remote control. Use the battery in it and turn to face the television. Select and use the remote control on it and see a 5xcolour hint.
Back out, leave the room and go to the bedroom [ten o'clock arrow]. Now zoom in on the television in here and enter your five colour code. You will see a hint to complete the microwave code.
Enter the island name on the upper drawer and get an audio tape.
Turn to face the cupboard drawers and enter the 4xshape/colour code.
You receive a hexagonal door handle.
Go to the kitchen [nine o'clock arrow] and enter the microwave pattern code.
Get a chisel [and suddenly realise why those sparks were flying out of it last time anyone used the microwave!].
Leave the room, go back to the living room [one o'clock arrow] and face the stereo unit. Zoom and put your tape in.
You get a gold key.
This is the part where I started running round in circles, and ended up hitting on the comments here =)

I've read that people have had trouble with the string vanishing when trying to combine it experimentally with things, but later on, nico5038 reported that you get the string back later if this happens, so don't restart!
I had only a lighter, a chisel, a key, a door handle a piece of string and a sad and stale piece of toast with graffiti dots on it.
I'd forgotten where I'd seen a keyhole, but Rubz said "put key on heating plate" and, although this meant another key and another heating device, I actually remembered where I'd seen a keyhole.
To be more explicit, go to the living room [one o'clock arrow] and zoom in on the boiler [the grey object].
Inside you see two measly-looking twigs, but they're dry enough, so use the lighter on them and they ignite surprisingly vigorously!
You also see a 4xdigit code above the flames.
This goes on the fridge-freezer, so back to the kitchen [9o'clock arrow] and turn around.
Enter the code and find the tool fairies have been at it again - a hammer.
Use this on the chisel [or the chisel on the hammer, can't remember, and I'm NOT playing this again to check, haha] to combine them.
Then I saw SwissMiss at 7:31, say "and why cant we use hammer on top of cb in bedroom - nice crack there!"
You genius! You can! You just need the combination tool to manage it!
You get a hook.
Walkthrough part three:
Use the hook on the string and head out to the bathroom [highest arrow, 11 o'clock-ish].
Turn, zoom in on the bath plughole and use the string-and-hook to reach the key!
There's one more puzzle to solve - on the hotplate in the kitchen.
This was what Rubz meant by saying: "put key on heating plate".
You need to melt the key to reshape it, apparently. I've not heard of this phenomenon EVER.
This puzzle can ONLY be solved by random experimentation. Logically the puzzle would be more likely to be solved by flying into a rage and just kicking the door down.
I'd be more likely to have a key-cutting machine in my house than ahve a key that magically melts into the correct configuration on a simple cooker hotplate!
Kitchen [9 o'clock arrow], then turn. Zoom in on the hotplate to see the four hotplate controls. Enter the colour code and
Now, back to the hallway and use the only back arrow [about 5:30-ish position]
Zoom in on the hole where the handle should be and, whilst gnawing frantically on the stale toast, use the door handle on the "X" and the key on the oval hole!!!
"WELL DONE!"
Is that all we get?
I'd expect at least a firework disply, tickertape parade and banquet in my honour after that effort - PLUS a free trip to disneyland for caring enough to write this walkthrough!
Grrr! And I was hurled off my mobile broadband several times while I was replaying to write this =P

ignore the x square from the wine bottle hint, that is just the starting square.
Go up from that square and click the new one red, then move right and click that, then down twice, clicking as you go, then right one, down one and left three squares, clicking each new square red.
You should end up with this arrangement [B=black, R=red dot]
and the door will be open:

Most of this game was very good, so I won't be voting it down, despite my scathing comments in the walkthrough.

Great walkthrough, thx Rookwings! I stopped playing yesterday, left with a key which didn't work on door and heatened stove in kitchen - and had no idea to melt the key there!
So I'm at least out now!
