I have to agree. I get the key with the fishing pole, then try to exit and lose the key. So I go back to get the key and click anywhere and suddenly the fishing pole is where the key was on the bottom of the pool!
Oh, well, maybe their next game will be better...
I had a hard time getting the key as well. You have to click on the key after it goes into your inventory.

It was clicking somewhere else in that scene to make a bird pop up that takes the key.
simple game. Tricky to click the key in the inventory to be able to keep it and leave, but I finally figured it out.
