  1. ok, so what I did to solve the code was write down what side the plant opens it's mouth for the whole sequence

    so it starts opening towards the right twice then the left 4 times, etc

    for the code, that would mean the button that looks like the mouth is opening to the right (the first button) get;s pushed ONCE, then the button that looks like the mouth is opening to the left (the second button) get's pushed TWICE

    so for every 2 times the mouth opens, you push the button once

    does that make sense?

  7. For the dancing plant, this is what I got watching

    R= plant opens mouth to the right
    L= plant opens mouth to the left

    RR LLLL RRRRRR LL RRRR LL RR LL RR LLLL

    each pair represents one push of the button

    so RR means push the first button (looks like mouth is open to the right) one time

    does that help?

  25. Zazie unfortunately I pretty much randomly clicked the code and it cleared for the safe. The plant pretty much did nothing for me. but it was only like 6 clicks to open the safe and the barrel is there just place the remaining swords based of each tic tac toe hint.

    I got to go and take a break I think this game broke my brain.

    each time the plant looks to one side, there are certain boxes lit up on the four corners. So, when the lights are in the corners like this:

    Write down the sequence of colors in dancing plant.
    There are 16 paterns:
    Write them down like this:

    R R
    R B

    B B
    B R

    Go upstairs and write down the sequence after each click.
    There are 7 sequances and then last one, is all blue.

    Search for each pattern from the safe in the patterns from dancing plant, and see if the plant is lookink Left or Right.

    note what light is on for each click (7) then go to plant and note where it looks when lights are the same as the safe.

  76. Enjoy you have to hit l/r buttons according to the safe, not to the plant. IE first note lights on safe, then go to see plant, and look at lights you need for your safe.
    PLants give 16 lights but you just need 7 of them !

  82. ok I think I got the plant code this time. lol this is what I did to find out the code (different each game?)

    First, I wrote down all 16 light codes that corresponded to the plant head turns.

    so for my game, the first time the plant turned it's head and opened it's mouth to the right (twice)

    the corresponding light pattern for me was

    RR
    RW

    the next plant head turn was left left and the light was

    WW
    WR

    then, the next head turn was left left, the light was

    RR
    WR

    etc

    then, I went up to the safe. The light pattern that you could see first on the safe (after hitting restart) was

    RW
    RW

    I went to my set of 16 light codes and found that when that light code happened, the plant was facing the right

    so I clicked the button with the plant facing the right

    then I got a second set of lights. I looked at the pattern on the safe, found the one in my notes that corresponded and clicked that button

    Does that make sense?

  110. @seb, the hint says (Diamond ✕ Star) - (Square ✕ Circle) / Flower(?)

    From those you know Flower = 6 (Salt) and Diamond = 135 (Sake)
    Use the recipe to calculate the rest of the values, knowing that 1:, 3: and 5: are ratios.
    5: Soy Sauce (Star) = 675 (135 ✕ 5)
    3: Sugar (Circle) = 405 (135 ✕ 3)
    1: Mirin (Square) = 135 (same ratio than Sake [1:])

    Substitute the values in the formula:
    [ (135 ✕ 675) - (135 ✕ 405) ] /6
    and there's where the code comes from...

  113. Yes, I think you have to do that. Turn the water on and leave the bathroom. Later on when you return the tub should be full of water, and a clue in the mirror for door code. Then, you should be able to use the soap in the full tub. Might take a while to fill it.

  117. POP FINALLY! You need to pour the sauce OVER the meat, THEN you can put the square metal thing on the grill. (Hardly any cook would ever do this (at least not UNCOVERED), because it would be a huge MESS if you barbecued the meat, with the hot sauce splashing everywhere (from the heat))

  122. @Helen, you should not press the whole sequence of moves your plant makes.
    You have to look at the red pattern on the safe, then find the same one among your notes from the plant, and see if the plant faces left or right on that specific pattern.
    When you press a button on the safe you will get a new pattern. Again, go to your notes from the plant to find that pattern, and see if you need to face left or right.
    Repeat this for all new patterns you get on the safe. It should be about 6 or 7 clicks (don't remember exactly).

    (beware, this is gonna be an extremely long one!!)

    INTRO (you may SKIP this if you wish)

    You find yourself batheing in a small pond where you can also see a precious ruby bracelet nearby, which
    you took off before bathing.Soon, a thunderstorm breaks loose and a shadowy spirit comes from the sky and snatches the bracelet w/lying there unguarded.
    While trying to figure out where the spirit has gone to, you find yourself locked in a multi-storey
    building (and get to pick up your bracelet again (doesn't it look a bit too girlish, huh))

    So how can you get out, and that means, UNHARMED?

    PART I
    ========


    Well. First, go left to the...

    ------------
    REDROOM (I)
    ------------
    There's a creature that looks like teh DEVIL himself. Just do nothing, just wait --
    and the creature will come rushing toward you and take away your clothes. Dire outcome!! Now you have to continue
    to make your way in your underpants. Whee, sexy!
    You now find yourself in a section with many rooms:
    KITCHEN
    ENTRANCE
    and
    LIVING ROOM (which can be accessed by the down arrow)

    LIVING ROOM
    --------------
    Pick up the portable VIDEO GAME CONSOLE, the MATCHES and the STRANGE PLANT off the table.
    Open the PLANT in inventory ("about item") and you can see that at its bottom, it can be plugged in somewhere.
    (Much, much later though.)

    ----------------------------
    HALL (KITCHEN/ENTRANCE) (II)
    ----------------------------

    Go back to the KITCHEN/ENTRANCE section, pick up the LOCKED CERAMIC POT and check out the RED BOOKS on the upper shelf.:
    They are entitled
    SON / ZONE / ON / CENT / OZ / ME / NOSE / NO. At first, these words make no sense to you, but within minutes, they will!
    Pick up the rightmost "book" on the lower shelf. It rather looks like a flat plastic (?) box than a book, with the hint MEET written on it.
    Open the flat box, flip it around and you can see a CROSSWORD PUZZLE!
    (HINT: combine words from books in upper shelf with words, solution below. A pen and a sheet of paper are highly recommended.)
    Pick up NUMBER STICKER "2" from the flat box's secret compartment.
    Also, pick up the SMALL BOOK (reveals itself as a valuable hint book!) from the middle of the lower shelf.
    Open SMALL BOOK.
    On the first pages, you can see a funny guy (haha reminds me quite a bit of Chuck Rock on the C=64, ah the memories! =))
    who seemingly walks, crouches and jumps without any obvious reason.
    (HINT: Find the door to the BATHROOM (more exactly: bathroom HALL) and look around. You might get an idea where to make use of these clues/hints. If not, solution is below.)
    Continue browsing SMALL BOOK...skipping 4 empty pages...
    You can see a STRANGE EYE and "x4 OPEN" clues. (Solution below.)
    There is yet another page at the end of the book, that will show you how to make a torch:
    * Find a strong wooden stick (you'll get that in a minute)
    * Find something to tie around (like a cloth or maybe something else ;))
    * Soak the fabric in oil (surely you'll have to find that, too! :P)
    * Set it on fire with a match (hah, glad we got these already!)
    (This torch will be needed for the STOREROOM later, because you can't do anything in there without a light source.)

    Go to the...

    and find said wooden stick. Voila! 2 torch parts of 4 are now found.
    Also take a look at the MAP hanging beside the entrance door. It's all Greek to you (or more exactly: Japanese to you) but you might have to "read" it anyway to have some clues working later. (Better be safe than sorry!)

    You find an FUEL CANISTER (bingo! 3 of 4 torch parts are now found), and, when zooming on the PIG, also a FRESH BUNCH OF LEEK.
    Go left, pick up the BEDROOM KEY in front of the REDROOM door, and note the TALL CUPBOARD:
    - lower drawer needs a 6-letter code word
    - upper drawer needs a key
    - the large doors above need a 3-pair number code (xx-xx-xx)

    BATHROOM/TOILET [HALL]
    ----------------------
    Go left, head into the BATHROOM (hall), press buttons in correct order (as described above), enter TOILET and pick up NUMBER STICKER "2" off the toilet lid.
    Look at the CALENDAR on the right, and press the upper right spot where you can see a Sellotape. You will flip the calendar back to January, and see a 3 x 3 GRID with the numbers "14" and "20" marked in red.
    (HINT: Think Tic-Tac-Toe! Solution below.)

    Back out into the HALL, zoom into the DRAGON PICTURE on the wall (make a mental note of the BLACK SPOTS) and unlock the BEDROOM with the key you just found.

    Pick up the HINT POSTCARD from under the CUSHION and take the EYE BOX.
    (HINT: As noted in the hint book, you have to have all 4 hats lifted up and all 4 eyes looking straightly to you.
    Although there might be a rule behind it, the box can be opened with a little trial and error.)
    Pick up the SPRAY CAN from inside the box. BUT WAIT! There's more in that box. Look at it again in the inventory. You can see a faint shape of a NUMBER STICKER just like those two you've found so far. Perhaps there is a way to "treat" the box so that it its secret get revealed? Well, maybe later.

    BEDROOM (LEFT SECTION)

    GO LEFT (w/still in the bedroom) and see TIC-TAC-TOE CLUE #2 on the wall (#1 was in the toilet, just FYI)

    Sure thing - we're about to make us a torch! Open STRONG STICK in inventory, tie duct tape firmly around it, apply FUEL to it (from the canister) and light it with the match! Voila! Let there be light! (Erm...Sprite light or Coke light?!)
    Go right 2 times, into ...

    STOREROOM

    STOREROOM. Highlight TORCH in inventory and click into the room. Now you can see something!
    Remember that box with the sticker-like shape on its bottom? Well, use it with the AX and chop it! This gets you NUMBER STICKER "4". But wait! That ax can do much more! Chop the LEEK into small chunks (yes you guessed it, we're about to COOK some stuff later!) and get a HINT PAPER (which you can see in gray amongst the green chunks of leek).
    Get the FROG COSTUME from the hook on the back wall and WEAR it (just the same way you did with the knight's armor before). Zoom on the BUCKET and there's a SQUARE PIECE inside. Get it and click on it once to unwrap it: it reveals a
    PIECE OF GREEN BATHING SOAP.

    Now it's time to pick POINTLESS FIGHT #2. "Armed" (bwahaha) with your frog costume and 36 knives, you enter the REDROOM
    and try to prove yourself as a knife-throwing athlete (though for the poor man). As you might have guessed, you lose again.

    and -- with a 'WHUMP!' - remove it and reveal a HIDDEN SWITCH! Push it, and the cabinet can be opened! Take back the dart as well, as you will need it later again. Click the COVER you've just removed and get NUMBER STICKER "7". (Two to go!)
    Right hand side got a BOTTLE OF SAKE inside (also note the MIRRORED (!) "135" on its bottom and the DIAMOND on its neck),
    whilst the left hand side holds a PILE OF LOGS.

    Now let's rummage in the rest of the drawers...
    There is a WOODEN CROSS in the upper drawer, which is no use to you until much later. The middle drawer doesn't contain
    anything of interest. Under the sink, you find a BOTTLE OF MIRIN (note the SQUARE on the bottle!).
    Inside the right cupboard above your head there is a BOTTLE OF SOY SAUCE (note the STAR on the bottle!).
    Now take a look at the KITCHEN ACCESS CARD (there is also something on the back, but this does not matter now.)
    Concentrate on the three SHISH KEBAB SPITS. Obviously, there are BROWN (meat) and GREEN (vegetable) bits of food on the spits. This is the code to the lower left cupboard. (Solution below)
    Open the cupboard and find nine PACKAGES OF SUGAR OR SALT inside. Pick up SUGAR PACKAGE (in center) and open it. Also note the CIRCLE on the package. The first package in first row (upper left) contains salt, which you can't take but notice a blue "6" on it, so there must be something interesting inside. Use your KNIFE to open the salt package, and find NUMBER STICKER "6" inside! (Just one more to go! By the way, the blue "6", THISTLE-shaped like the number stickers we found, wasn't there by pure luck but it is part of the MATH EQUATION later, so take a mental note of it!)
    Between the two sets of cupboards, there's another point of interest. See that red button on the panel mounted below
    the upper set of cupboards? It does nothing, but it once was meant to toggle the FAN. Find the tiny spot RIGHT of that red button, and you should get a close-up view of the FAN. You find a 10,000 YEN NOTE! Flip it and see a pretty girl
    and below the "code" B88W58H90.
    Take a mental note of all that.
    Now the final cupboard to open is the upper left one.
    Zooming on it reveals that you need a bunch of SYMBOLS (those are: circle, square, diamond and star).
    Remember those symbols found on bottles? Well, they will soon be of some greater importance now.
    Again, let's summarize:
    Mirin bottle: "square"
    Soy sauce bottle: "star"
    Sugar package: "circle"
    Sake bottle: "diamond"
    (HINT 1: Math reads: ((DIAMOND x STAR) minus (SQUARE x CIRCLE)) divided by THISTLE)
    (HINT 2a: Look at the kitchen access card again and reflect upon what "5:", "3:", "1:" and "1" could stand for.)
    (HINT 2b: I personally like to mix myself a LEMONADE with less sugar, by using a small amount of thick orangeade syrup

    Open the upper part of the FRIDGE and zoom on the ICE CUBE MAKER! It is again a 3x3 grid and qualifies as TIC-TAC-TOE HINT #3 (note the black arrow too: it's not there by pure luck!)

    AND NOW ... FINALLY... IT'S COOKIN' TIME !!

    But...at least the former does! Open PURPLE BOX, put "HERE" as the password and - yeah, it opened! (Unusually easy, even.)
    You find a BAG OF SEEDS inside which you can't make use of right now, so ... now let's play the "Dinner-Serving princess!"
    "About Item" the princess costume, wear it (black"button") and head into...

    Geez, wearing that stuff feels so gay!! (Glad there was no pearl necklaces or bracelets in that cupboard, or lipstick!!) The red dude suddenly gets some doubt in your identity, gazes at you many times, then blows your cover, running away with your "lovely" costume! You're back in your underwear (though somehow glad to have gotten rid of that ridiculous costume after all...) in the hall between kitchen and entrance. Go left, one last time back to the ...

    - SECRET ROOM (DOWNSTAIRS)

    (Now you might realize why it was a clever thing to ignore things downstairs first time. The squirrel shuns human
    proximity and will NOT touch those seeds as long as you're strolling around up there. Since you did things the best possible way, you will be able to just get the key off the squirrel's claws next time you go up.)
    Now do look right. You can see two weird (indigenous-looking) totem-like objects, and something that looks like a PLUG
    between them. Remember that object you found which can be "plugged in" somewhere? Of course, it's the PLANT!
    Highlight it and plug it into that socket. (CLICK!)
    Did you see that mighty safe when you were upstairs? Well, this installation MAY help you to crack it (if you concentrate)
    Press the yellow button.
    After 4 "metronome-like" clicks (like those trademark ones done by the drummer in rock music) the plant will start to DANCE!

    * The order and selection (= sequence) of red/white combinations are UNIQUE TO EACH GAME you play.
    * HOWEVER: the assignment of combinations as such to directions the plant is facing seem FIXED.
    (I can confirm, as I played the game yesterday and could take my original list from yesterday. Just the order
    was different, but R/R | R/W as facing right (left button) as well as W/R | R/W was facing left (right button), just as yesterday. They just got randomized by their order.)
    * There are 16 (!) possible color combinations.
    * Each time the plant opens its mouth---facing in two IDENTICAL (and sequential) directions---the color of the totems (I'll call them that) changes, too.
    * The order of moves / color combinations on the dancing plant DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL. The order (which is in fact a subset of the 16 moves shown here) is given by the safe's code module upstairs later.
    * What you now have to do is take a pen and a paper (trust me, it's the most accurate way and saves you the trouble of doing it all over again, in case you make a mistake! Remember, colors can combine in 16 ways in total.)
    * Upstairs, you will have to press the RIGHT button if the plant faces LEFT, and the LEFT button, if the plant faces
    RIGHT. That's why you should always keep apart the buttons and the directions the plant is facing. You may want to
    do this by using CAPITALS and small letters.
    * Though you may ignore identical pairs of moves, it can also help to distinguish the direction the plant is facing from
    the button you have to press. (That's what I did below, writing explicitly '2xr'). Just make sure to press ONE BUTTON PER PAIR. Example: Plant faces right-right, then left-left. So you have to press LEFT and RIGHT button in this order.

    One idea to write them down could be this: (UPPER LEFT / LOWER LEFT) | (UPPER RIGHT/LOWER RIGHT)
    (1) R/R -| R/W - faces 2xr - button L
    (2) W/W - | W/R - faces 2xl - button R
    (3) W/W - | R/R - faces 2xl - button R
    ...
    Later (upstairs), you can just look at the color combination, and search for the right one on your paper, then piece the L and R moves together in right order. Again, it's the safe that "chooses" which combinations you have to answer. Imagine it to be a code sheet from an old home computer game. The manual has 40 pages, with one symbol printed on each page, but you only need 3 symbols, picked out by the game engine. (like: please give symbol from page 7, 21 and 39).
    Without a doubt, it's cumbersome, but mandatory to solve the game.

    Part 7 on the way!!! If you have proved some persistence and not yet thrown the towel (well I hope so!), you can now pick up your prize from the safe: a BARREL WITH JESTER that can be rotated both counterclockwise and clockwise, once you've highlighted the KNIVES in your inventory and then clicked on the barrel. (Red arrows appear.) Now rotate the barrel and note the different colors on each side. Does this already ring a bell to you at this stage?
    (HINT: Remember those four TIC TAC TOE clues. Still no cigar? ... solution below.)
    Now you have a funny-looking JESTER KEY, which opens the LOCKED CERAMIC POT in your inventory!
    Pick up the HINT NOTE and a GAS CAPSULE. Highlight it, and attach the DART to it!
    Well, then also go left and grab the KEY (#4) off the plate you had put some seeds on for the squirrel.
    Go downstairs (2 times) and right to ...

    HALL (REDROOM/STOREROOM) (IV)
    ------------------------------
    Darts/Arrows without something to shoot them with are no use, so unlock the remaining last locked drawer in the
    tall cupboard with the key you got from the squirrel and get a ... CROSSBOW! Attach the GAS CAPSULE+DART missile to it
    and now you have an ARMED CROSSBOW!

    REDROOM (V)
    -------------
    Rush into the room, FIRE the crossbow at the devil, and ... you've set off an alarm, which, on its part, activated
    the security door! The devil can no longer harm you, though, which feels comfortable. Open the PANEL in front of you.
    Attach the CROSS you picked up in the kitchen "long time ago" and enter security code.
    (Hint: are you now getting CROSS (literally) because you have no security code? Get in SHAPE again and save it for later. Solution below.)
    Did you note TWO lights on the security panel, one of it still being red? Well, that's because there are TWO endings.
    (This also explains why you haven't yet used your spray can.)

    As I wrote above in the hint, I actually love to mix myself a LEMONADE with less sugar, by using a small amount of thick orangeade syrup, and then filling the glass up with water up to the brim.     This is what you have to do here: the numbers shown on the kitchen access card are *MIXING RATIOS*.

    But I think the helluva lot of work I put into my WT is at least one humble way of saying "thank you" to the game author, who (seriously!) must have been programming several months on this one - maybe one whole year. (Remember there were even cut scenes!)

  136. @arbeitslooser, what to say about writing such a walkthough? The word that describes it the best along with your efforts is amazing. Congratulations, honest. Absolutely great!

    Well, I think this is one of those games that don't come very often and make you be certain about why we all like escape games this much, due to the size and the difficulty of it. I feel I should contribute with some clarification for it, which it was not directly your fault, but a glitch in the game that made everyone (me included the first time I played, must confess) to try the most obvious of the codes for a more elaborated puzzle... and this glitch practically ruined it.

    Quoting that part in your WT:
    "Read the NOTE on the left of the inside of the cupboard door, note the "here" word, the "3=D" and the "green_5 / orange_2 / gray_4 / blue_1" hint, the latter of which still does not make sense to you.
    But...at least the former does! Open PURPLE BOX, put "HERE" as the password and - yeah, it opened! (Unusually easy, even.)
    "

    If you try to open that purple box with ANY letter at the end (excluding 'A') it opens... HERF, HERU, HERQ. Try any. It opens.
    Everyone trying 'HERE' as the password was really an unlucky coincidence for, like I said above, a more elaborated puzzle.

    OK now, look at the color of the square where the word 'here' is. Notice it is the same color of the floor where 'you' are in the game (here).
    The #3 inside the Red square = D tells you to take the 3rd letter of the name of the room with the Red floor. REDROOM.
    In the same way, the "green_5 / orange_2 / gray_4 / blue_1" hint says to get:
    5th letter of the room with Green floor.
    KITCHEN
    2nd letter of the room with Orange floor.
    BEDROOM
    4th letter of the room with Gray floor.
    ENTRANCE
    1st letter of the room with Blue floor.
    BEDROOM

    The code for the purple box is actually HERB, but this bug in particular made it open with any letter at the end getting past the correct one (B), and that's why it doesn't open with 'A'

  139. This was even more valuable than my whole walkthrough!!

    Edgar, what do you think, how long have I been racking my brains about this strange " 5 2 4 1 " combination?

    For one, 5 + 2 + 4 + 1 adds up to 12, which is the number of knives you use in the barrel...BUT...only some colors did match, not all of them!

    So a huge thanks for finally making me able to rest my brains on that confusing bit.
    Yes there was some good reason why I didn't mention that note inside the cupboard ever again! =D

    BTW, have you ever figured out that stuff on one of the papers, (up-arrow) BBB, (right-arrow) BBB and so on?
    I thought it's the B key on the video mini-game, but Valérie got the code word even without messing wit the button, so it must mean something else...

  140. As far as I know, the video game has to be solved in the sequence you mention. If you press START in it, you see a bunch of the little men randomly moving around without any sense... BUT it is until you press the buttons in the correct sequence when you actually see them spelling letters. If you can't read them or if you missed one of them, pressing START again re-start the spelling, and trust me on this, it is not hard at all to see them. Try it.
    By the way, the sequence is (after pressing START to turn the game on):
    RIGHT-B-B-B
    UP-B-B-B
    LEFT-B-B-B
    DOWN-B-B-B
    START

    where, like you correctly assume, B stands for the B key. All the other are the 4 buttons to the left side of the video game.

    Well my problem was that I *DID* try it out on the mini-game but there was no change in movement, so I gave up. But I can retry, it's right at the beginning of the game (no locked drawers, cupboards, hidden compartments ;))

    Funny, really? Well, yes I made cautious attempts to put in some bits (!!) of humor here and there, but I also took care not to exaggerate it.

    However, people like Rookwings usually can double or triple the humor and it's still damn entertaining (of not to say: more than ever!).But she's a native speaker, unlike me, so as a foreigner, it's rather a winner if you just use humor sparsely, otherwise they could get the impression you're trying hard to be funny.
