I wonder if it is a bug - I doused the fire - the bucket disappeard - and the fire came alight again before I could look in the chimney
cant get the code right !!
@SwissMiss- you should be able to place your ladder on the left wall after dousing the fire.
yeah the fire came back alight so u can light the torch i suppose !!
The code is kind of confusing, but if you imagine a grid like you'd draw for tic tac toe, you can match up the numbers with the squares.

Got it... Use the shapes around the number on the floor. Like the first one....has the shape around it...like a 4 does on a key pad..and the next one has the shape around it like a 9 does.
gmm - ty I found out about that - you have to douse fire first before you can place the ladder

Shaz, the clue for the 3 digit code in the attic is the shapes on the floor in the basement.
Where's the key to the cellar anyone? Got 11 but stuck trying to get into cellar for the rest.

@radhu: You need to press the button in the fireplace once the fire is out to open the loft. Then you can place the ladder.
