You have to overlap the patterns from the palm trees. I thought I'd got it wrong, but I went away and came back again and the safe had opened to give a map.
Put the wood in between the two rocks in the first scene.

Yes, there is a clue on a rock in the right hand scene.
Add the curved bit of wood (I thought it was a magnet!), and the rope. I suppose I'm looking for a missile now...

assembled slingshot is for bottle with map & message
Pop-up - the patterns are placed as two overlapping diamond shapes - that means that the right hand symbol from the first tree swaps places with the left hand symbol from the second tree. I then had to leave the scene and return before the safe would open.
this site got a lot worse without star ratings, it would have helped me avoid this one

I think perhaps you have to see the hint before the symbols will work.
You have to examine the compass before you can write a message on the map.

Walking through ....
Take the piece of wood, the gem on the right, the piece of paper in the sand on the left. There are signs on the coconuts.
Next scene.
On the left rock : need the leftovers of a fish.
A pencil inside the nose of the plane. A compass at the side of the plane. A round wood between the trees.
The coconut symbols on the board, sigh .. thanks Clodagh.
Put the symbols in from left (tree) to right (tree). Then switch the middles ones = map.
Next scene.
Take the gem that's on the head. The colors : put pink on pink etc.= a cork.
Behind the rock on the right are the remains of the fish.
About item the piece of paper and use the clue on the board = gem.
Place the fish = a bottle.
Place the gems on the statues = a rope.
About item the compass, read the direction.
About item the map, write your message with the pencil.
About item the bottle, put map inside it, close with cork. Click the bottle to put it in inventory.
In first scene, place the piece of wood between the rocks, attach the round piece of wood, and the rope, i.o.w. make a catapult. Put the bottle on it ... Click and pull it backwards.
LOOK, the fisherman in the distance comes to your rescue !!
Why were we rescued by a Venetian Gondolier? Isn't he more lost than we are?
