To go fly over the sea return to the place where the game started, go through the door, on your left press "space" and use the fire for parachute to fly.

I have done all that is listed as well as gotten the blue gem by using the fire to blow up the baloon, but then I get stuck. Could someone that has finished it list what has to be done or at least tell me how to "travel by sea".

You have a delightful adventure game...bit hard negotiating in the forest with arrow keys, as you cant see where you are going. I ran out of strength due to being dyslexic with arrow keys - kept diving into poison bushes and falling down holes!!! But fun...
