Bow Street Runner - City of Vice is a point and click type mystery adventure game from Channel 4. City of Vice - Bow Street Runner is set in London's Covent Garden in the 1750s. With crime and vice running at very high levels, and before the organised police force existed in England, local magistrates formed the Bow Street Runners and began to impose law and order. Each episode of the game will lead the player to explore different crime scenes, collecting evidence, solving puzzles, interviewing characters and presenting the case to the magistrate for judgement. OMG! The scene after the dead harlot is take SO LONG to load! And I really don't want to reload and start ALL OVER again!

That was cool, despite loading times.
The proof needed is the watch, the scrap of paper with the address and the son's journal.
I didn't like that I couldn't skip the intro etc.
If you drain the tub and push everything to the left, you can find the murder weapon.
i loved this game,cant wait till the next episode,,i did not succeed i tried the pocket watch,the journal,and doyle,,,i was wrong,,,when will another one come out?
Maybe I'm being a bit dim, but...I'm in the first scene with the dead body. I have got the hair and receipt, looked at his neck, watch chain and ring, but can't find anything else to do. There's obviously something, as I can't move on. Any help appreciated :o)

rosy: I was able to save the harlot, but I wasn't even aware I was supposed to try to stop the son from being killed haha ...
divinyl: look at the dumpster, you need to drain the water out and rifle through it

went on to one scene but couldn't get back out what are you supposed to do about going from one scene to another without having to start the game again?
You have to find all the evidence before you can move on..happens automatically when you are done.
Loved the glass to the wall thing tho' don't think I put it in the right place. And wasn't sure about how to present the evidence, and my harlot died so wonder if you get more info if she lives. Good game def.
I think I know who did it but how do you go on to solve it?
When you've been everywhere you get taken back to the head honcho guy and you have to present your evidence. Wasn't sure how that worked so lost.
Will play it again now I know what to do.
amanda: Yeh, I didn't know I was suppose to try stopping the killing of the son either, until I saw the "esteem missed" sign.
As for the harlot, it gave me the sponge whenever I think I've stitched it properly... Got to try it again sometime...
I got a few mistakes at the end when trying to prove the murder was organised by the son. I think the proof is a bit weak (a piece of paper with Williams' address can only prove a possible connection, but it's not final).

My game seems to be stuck after the bar scene. It loaded in reasonable times for the first two seens (a minute or two), but this scene (the sons house I think) has been loading for at least 10 minutes and hasn't gone anywhere--is anyone else having this problem?

I don't think it's possible to save the son. To get the esteem at the wall you just have to make sure you keep the tumbler on the parts of the wall that allow you to hear the conversation loudly.
I'm still never able to save the harlot, though. Anyone know what happens if you do? I was still able to solve the case, but i'm curious.

whether you manage to save the harlot or not doesn't change the story outcome. saving the harlot only allows you to increase your self-esteem meter. you can't even talk to or interview her after you save her :P
This game keeps on loading and loading and loading...... is there an alterative link? Or maybe I have something to do with the letters on the desk?€

Is anyone getting stuck at trying to help the harlot? I get to one of the wounds and fix it but it won't let me go to any others and I have to end up restarting the whole game.
Thanks for all your feedback on our Bow Street Runner game and for helping us dig out all the bugs in the BETA version. Your input has been invaluable and the enthusiasm that we’ve had has really buoyed the team who are currently knee-deep in building the other four episodes. Episode one should now be totally fixed and is fully launched today so give it another go… and since you guys have already had a practise you should get through to episode two with no problems. In this fixed up version your esteem will be carried over to the other episodes… so if you want to be reminded when they’re going live simply leave your email address on the form at the bottom of the game page.

Finished episode 2 easily.
The scene where you need to convince your boss made a lot more sense to me in this one, he asked a lot of leading questions.
I am so stuck on the plank of wood, and pulling the nails out. I keep pulling them out, and they keep going back down. Is there a sequence that I need to follow?

The nails part sucks....I'm still on it.
It took me several tries to get the nails all up. There is no particular order. You just need to do it fast. I clicked and dragged the nail up with a quick flick with my wrist and let go once I heard the click noise.

This series is pretty cool. I didn't have that hard of a time with the bricks - especially considering how difficult the pixel hunting is on some of the other games on this forum.

The beeb should do another, and much more deeply involved, one of these in which you play Watson to the computer-controlled Holmes.
I liked this series even though my evidence was dismissed from episodes 2 and 3 for some reason.
So for those who actually beat episodes 2 and 3, can you give me the REAL verdict on what happened to the alleged killer?
aarrgghh first time I played got through scene 1, went into black dog then whenever i clicked on Boyle, I would just get a black screen with 'conversation' written there... I couldnt do anything else, so started again and again and again - ever since, I can not get black dog scene to load. At all. Im sick of repeating scene one! is this a bug?

@Iris100 after slapping him you should slap him again and again.
@Iris - you have to slap him a few times. If the pawnbrooker tells you to get rid of him then that should be enough to initiate that scene.
I only finished one self-esteem blip away from chief inspector. I wonder that if you complete the coin game the first time, you receive more self-esteem.
I slapped him three times alright. But after he leaves theres no way out for me. And I cant click on the pawnbrokers book
I guess thats a bug. If I click on the wrong guy to talk to, then the mouse pointer turns grey and its over

Hey everybody, I just played the game..I didnt have any problems today...I do have a Broadband conection but haven't been able to play until today... I really liked this game....The puzzles (which I normally dont like) were totally different and pretty easy..I played the coin game over and over just for fun.. I actually made it up to Inspector, until I presented the wrong evidence to my bossman, uuuhhh, I then went down... I am looking forward to more episodes...Fun and different game..
ok, on episode 3 - got to the part where I zoom in at the end of the room...a brick wall a bed....and a freakin' mouse that pops in and out...have clicked everwhere and zoomed in...no clue what to do...anyone?

Can't get episode 2 to work after the autopsy scene. Why?

Renault, you click on the brick wall beside the bartender. You will find what you need..
With you Rocky, Is it that the scene wont load?, or you cant leave the room? If you cant leave its because you didnt finish in the room.
The second won't load for me either. I get stuck after the autopsy. I can move the papers on the desk but and it never loads....sigh.
I can't figure out what to do in episode 2. I completed the autopsy, what else is there to do in the room?
Okay, for the autopsy room..You perform the autopsy, and get the ring out of his stomach..(evidence)Then notice the missing brass button from his jacket..(evidence) Then gather the shoes into evidence (they are on floor)..Then collect the suicide note into evidence..(on floor also) beside chair..Now you should be able to exit the scene..
Just notice that the jacket has a missing button (it raises your esteem) and it goes into evidence..You will find the actual button later when you go upstairs..
The sucide note is on the floor by the chair that the jacket is hanging on..
OOPS! It gave me a code but the episode hasn't been launched yet, bummer :o(

First of all I have to say that I love these games! They're really genius ^^ Okay, the cases are not that difficult, but very very exciting!
But now I have one question:
I don't know how many times I have played the first episode, but is it possible to save the son of Mr. Williams before he is murdered... or to find an evidence I haven't seen yet?
I tried everything to get rid of the glass and open the door, but every time I only see the words "Esteem failed" or something like this... but why? ;__;
You can't actually save the son.
You receive the esteem by hold the glass over the door and wall so that the conversation between the two men is as audible as possible.
Okay, finished Episode 4,,,,waiting on 5...I love this game

So stuck on episode 4 with that goll dern contraption outside gin mill..grrrrr.
Tried for 2 hours to get pieces together and top of each other putting on springs...with no luck.

Me Toooooo, Figuring it Out..
Hey Grammyapples..Your almost finishing up Episode 3. In the scene where you have to put the still together.. Place them one at a time.. After each piece, start your mouse on the glowing ball and just follow it to the end of that line..The "S" squiggly lines are a little tricky..Keep trying, you will get it.. It will say success and that particular piece is placed..After all are placed light the pilot on the left and your out..

Ended the game, I got A, rank Commander, and this is one of the best games I've ever played!
Starting 5 now. Fantastic game. Only a developer with the money behind them from the likes of C4 could have made it and so we're playing an advert, really, but it's still fun. And how many of you have checked out City Of Vice as a result of playing the game? Bet it's quite a few.
Stuck on the arson scene. The bloke walking back and forth must be important but I can't seem to attract his attention.

it´s late now and time to go, but the best part had to be opening the fingers to get the hair on the 1st episode!! Well worth it for that!
Enjoy this game, worth the time taken to play it and don´t worry you have passwords to leave and return as it can be long with all 5 episodes.

Phew, I had to say this last one is really thrilling and better than the fourth case... which wasn't bad either, but I prefer the last one... (*sniff* but I was really sad to see the second man dead... -.-; I really liked him!)
I think, the most exciting and stressfull moments ( in a positive way) were in the first episode helping the harlot and in the last one the gun shot...

question: when i shot the guys in the warehouse it said esteem missed. did anybody find out what to do to actually raise the esteem?
@ Ashael: yes, i now have the rank commander. as the rank is a sum of the esteems in all episodes you must have missed one.

In chapter 4 when Fielding asks, "What ties Ned Roach to the bordello?" I put in several papers, all of which was wrong. So, I finally put in a picture of that Butters woman because she's his girlfriend and she ran the bordello. That wasn't right either. Could someone give me the order to present all the evidence. Thanks in advance.
this is a bit off topic but i saw the add for this game and thought it was "the lost crown: a ghosthunting adventure". This is a fun game too alot different form the other but same backdrop. This one is alot cheaper to play too!
