yes, that was easy, but of course I had to complicate it for myself!
warning to others: we have been trained, by other games, that hammers are good for smashing holes in walls, but spare your clicking finger. It's not gonna work here. You need to smash the other item

Open the top drawer of the dresser and get the hammer
Zoom in to the left of the dresser and get the key from the floor
If you try the hammer or the key in the room, you won’t succeed
Look at the key in the about item view
Smash it with the hammer -- get the red key
Turn 2 times
Use the red key that on the door
You’re out!
