Escape from the Tone Room Walkthrough

Escape from the Tone Room

Escape from the Tone Room is another point and click room escape game created by Brendan from Sauce Productions. Brendan said: "This is my second flash game. It involves abstract puzzle solving more than finding and using items. I'm not an artist, but I tried to make more of an effort on drawing this time, since the majority of the complaints about the Teal Room (other than the paper clip glitch) were my terrible graphics." Good luck and have fun!

sorry, i don't hear a different sound.

Tips from the maker:
Some things require a second glance.
Not all the items in the game are necessary, but will make it easier to solve the puzzles.
If you hate pixel hunting, there's a jumper hidden in the dirt of the potted tree.
The chest has 8 buttons. So does the tone generator. What ORDER do you push them in?
Not sure what the numbers on the paper mean? It would help if they were in color.
Primary mix to make secondary colors.

Maybe we have to do something with the tone generator first.

pascale, somewhere in the first scene. Lamp/jacket?

Thank you Yvon, I deleted my message because of the famous POP ! I have now a whole pink paper, where I can't read anything !

And the paper disappeared before I could try to read it !

Pascale, the paper has a column of four numbers - a green 12, red 2, purple 13 and a yellow 8.

on paper it says
Green 12
Red 2
Purple 13
Yellow 8

according to last hint of maker:
Blue/yellow 12
Red 2
Blue/red 13
Yellow 8

But how does this fit into the tone generator?

LOL...@Fatima started this game and gave up and went to bed at 09:00....She will awaken to find it still live...LOL

Well, not exactly live...but unsolved....
Love your WT @cricketer9999...lol

Hi guys, this is Brendan. I enjoyed reading all your comments! You're on the right track with the curtains. Use the pink paper and tone generator to figure out the heights the curtains must be at.

Thanks nokra.:-D

Brendan, how will we know we have the right lengths, will something happen or will we hear a sound?

Sadly I still fail to see any logic in that code. I give up. Not worth the time.

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 9:23 AM

What... still no walkthrough? What have you all been doing LOL. Oh dear.. I've re-started, got stuck at the exact same point, have read through all the posts and am baffled. Maybe I'll go ad look for an easier game - I hate it, thugh, when I have to give in.

Here's another hint (that should let you finish the game): The numbers on the sheet of paper you put together tell you which buttons to press on the tone generator. See a 12 and there's only 8 buttons? Count to 8 from left to right, then start over and count 4. If you see a red number (when the paper is pink), maybe you should only count red buttons...

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 10:08 AM

Thanks for dropping by @Brendan, i have a tab open with your game since early this morning, lol. Let´s see what we can do with your hints, especially the last one :-)

Thanks @Brendan, that hint was all I needed! :D

I've just escaped, but unfortunately I have to go out and I won't be able to start writing a Walkthrough until about an hour or so :(

See you all later!!

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 10:14 AM

mmm, tried several combinations but still i don´t get it :-(

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 10:14 AM

Edgar my dear friend, don´t leave me here please.....

@full im with u tried lots of different ways to no avail??

@Full - HINT! First find the tones using the method I described. Then figure out where on the musical scale they are. That should help you figure out the height the curtains should be!

@Full, REALLY REALLY need to leave now to do some school picking up. :(

I'll come back soon and put myself to write right away... promised!

Another hint: green is made of blue and yellow, so count ONLY blue and yellow buttons!

Bye for now!

Hey all, just got back from work and I see this is still LIVE(ish)!!!!
Thanks for the hints Brendan, gonna work on them now.

@Alkmar...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 10:22 AM

Brendan, thanks a lot, but still,i really got confused ( early this morning already) with what hint and what code to put where??
I mean, the curtains make the buttons work? the buttons make the curtains work? than we have the Staff notes, note frequencies, and the colors/numbers from the paper. To tell you the truth i can´t think straight anymore to seem to combine them

hi all and hi brendan, according to your tip my thought is this:
green = 12, and green = blue + yellow -> so i only look at the blue and yellow buttons at the generator. if i count them 12 times, i end up at the yellow button no. 3, which would be the tone B3.
Am i completely wrong?

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 10:23 AM

♫ Er is er een jarig hoera, hoera ♫
Congtats Alkmar!!!!!

with this method i get:
12 -> B3
2 -> G3
13 -> D3
8 -> A3
setting the curtains in the height of these notes from left to right, i unfortuantely get nothing :-/

Okay, got the curtains sorted and got a four number code :o)

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 10:28 AM

Well, i´m sorry but i´m going to have to wait an hour till Edgar´s back. Because of all the trees i don´t see the forest anymore (does that make sence?)

now i DID get something :-P :-D
had placed one curtain wrong *sigh*

hi Full, for me this saying does make sense :-) its much used in my language.
did my comments cut down any trees in your way?

Hmmm, I'm a bit stuck on where to use the numbers from the curtains lol

Is this the passcode for the door?

phoe n what was your correct notes please

@Full, use the lines on the wall as the staff note, then place curtains accordingly.

amy86, i posted them already. the notes were correct, i only hadn't set one curtain correctly on the right note.

@Rambler: the 4 numbers have each a point around them. and then remember the note on the wooden pedestal.

@amy86, if you've 'mixed' the colours correctly and counted, you should have

SPOB3IG3LD3EA3R

place the curtains in that order according to the staff note.

@Phoe, thanks, I didn't see those points, DOH!!!

I'm out now :o)

YAY congrats!

thanx alot phoe n

Cheers for the congrats Phoe, gonna try some of the new ones from today now. The 123bug one might be worth a laugh :o)

and finally out thanx all

9 hours trying to figure out those dam curtains and then out in 2 minutes with brendans clue, my brain is now totally fried!! looking forward to the next one brendan...kind of;)

Hi all, I'm back now and congrats on escaping too! :)
I'll start this WT now...

Hey, is Alkmar's birthday today??
GONGTATS ALKMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 11:30 AM

Hurray, I'm out.

Thanks everyone.

Thank you @Brendan! I just got the opportuniy to check back here and could solve it with your second hint (as you knew we would do lol). I really liked the game and the code wasn't too bad. It was really logical and we can't blame you for not getting it ourselves lol. Thanks again! I hope to see more games from you!

Oh, and another HUGE GONGTATS @Alkmar!!! Happy birthday!!!

Differently than usual, I’ve decided to write this WT including spoilers and solutions in it, instead of doing it at the end. I found a bit hard to explain and difficult to understand; hope you understand. Here you have then the…

SPOIL • THROUGH

• Take a torn paper from the pocket of the hanging jacket.
• Go down.

• Find a jumper under the ugly rug.
• Go down.

• Take the left speaker.
• Go left.

• Find another jumper in the dirt of the tree plant and a screwdriver in the bottom drawer.
• Zoom in to the left of the drawers and plug the cord; zoom back.
• Zoom in on the TONE GENERATOR and use the screwdriver on any of the 4 screws to remove the cover; place both jumpers above the blue and red wires (to make blue and red buttons functional) and click on the green wires to connect them (and to make the generator display screen functional too); zoom back and the cover will be in place again.
• Now drag the SPEAKER into the AUX outlet (the missing purple wire makes you unable to hear the tones, so you need an external speaker for that) and finally press the POWER button to turn the generator ON.
• Press the entire buttons one at a time while you hear each of their tones and look at the hertz frequency they display on the screen. Notice you can actually make a progressive notes scale out of them, so you can figure out an ORDER to open the chest.
• Zoom out and go right.

• Zoom in on the chest and use the tones you’ve heard from the generator to press the 8 buttons in the correct order to open it. This is:
From left to right, the buttons on the generator displayed these frequencies:
1) 146.83
2) 164.81
3) 246.94
4) 130.81
5) 196.00
6) 220.00
7) 174.61
8) 261.64
Rearranging the tones/frequencies from lowest to highest we have:
4) 130.81
1) 146.83
2) 164.81
7) 174.61
5) 196.00
6) 220.00
3) 246.94
8) 261.64
Take from here the order to press the buttons on the chest:
4 1 2 7 5 6 3 8
If someone is able to open the chest with a different order (like it actually happened) it’s most likely because of a glitch in the game
• Chest opened, take a second torn paper and see the STAFF NOTES. You won’t need this until a bit later, so make notes of it, take a snapshot of it or just leave it to come back here later on.
• Zoom out and go to the left two times, facing the exit door.

SPOIL • THROUGH (PART TWO)

• In inventory, combine both halves of the paper; click, drag and release the complete paper to the text box left from the inventory (to have a look at it) and notice some numbers in it: [12 2 13 8]
• Now dip the paper in the pink liquid and take another look at it (you know how) to see the numbers are colored now: [12g 2r 13p 8y]
• Go to the right.

• Zoom in the GENERATOR again and use the 4 colored numbers to know what 4 buttons to press this time. Make notes of the frequencies you get… I’ll explain it now:
You have to count the buttons from left to right the number shown in the paper. Count ONLY the buttons in the colors shown in their respective numbers (and continue counting from the left once you’ve reached the end). Press the correct buttons and make notes of the frequencies they display. This is:
» First color is 12 green. Green is made by mixing blue and yellow. From left to right count the blue and yellow buttons and stop at 12 (this should be the button number 3 (in yellow) with the frequency 246.94;
» Second number is 2 red. We have red buttons here, and the second red button is the fifth one from the left, with the frequency 196.00.
» Next number is 13 purple. Purple is made by mixing blue and red. Counting 13 blue and red buttons you should end on the first one (in blue) with the frequency 146.94.
» Last number is 8 yellow. Counting only 8 yellow buttons the one we look for is the sixth with the frequency 220.00.
• Zoom out and go to the right.

• Look at the blue book on the shelf to see the NOTE FREQUENCIES… compare the ones you’ve got from the buttons with these:
1) 246.94 → B3
2) 196.00 → G3
3) 146.83 → D3
4) 220.00 → A3
• Zoom out and go inside the chest.

• Look now at the STAFF NOTES and notice the place your NOTES are located in the staves.
• Zoom out and go to the right.

• Click on the 4 buttons to place the curtains in their correct places/heights with the clues you’ve got. Notice the ugly lines on the wall? They are actually music staves!!
Click here for a visual (and better) solution.
• The curtains will be gone and now you can see some numbers on the upper part of them [ 2 2 3 6 ]… but, if you look closer, you can see a small spot around each number: [ ↙ ↗ ↖ ↘ ]
• Go to the right.

• Now you have the order and the amount of times to click on the door corners to escape:
» [↙2] lower left 2 times.
» [↗2] upper right 2 times.
» [↖3] upper left 3 times.
» [↘6] lower right 6 times.

• The door is open… escape… congrats!

As always, but especially this time: thumbs up, FANTASTIC WALKTHROUGH EDGAR !!!!! It´s so extremely clear, my compliments!!!

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 1:09 PM

Need to say though that leaving for dinner i closed down my browser instead of minilizing it. it´s a little late now but i sure get back tomorrow to try again. Thanks again Edgar and everybody else joining today and suffering throughout the game

And now I'm back here again. It's been such a busy day for me, lol.

Thanks for the game @Brendan. You really have a future here but...
Hmmm, how to say? A good game? Well, there was logic in it, but only after knowing where to look at, how to use the clues and what reasoning (your reasoning actually) to focus in. There's no way I could have made it without your help here (and I dare to affirm no other could have made it). I've said before that a game that can't stand on its own and needs the hints of its maker to be solved is not a good one, therefore I have to say your game was not good. Sorry. I say what I think. It's the way I am and the people who knows me better know I'm not here feeling I have to be "a nice guy."
You know? By using ALL your clues (I mean the ones in the game only) I could come up with 2 different solutions for the curtains, and they gave me 3 different ways to knock on the door corners. They all logical for me, but obviously wrong ones. See what I mean? This game somehow lacked of the hints you had to post here. It could have been better ("self-standing") had it included more clues to lead us to the right reasoning/solving.
But again, congratulations... maybe you could give me a shout in case you want me to share with you my experience playing your game? I'd like to.
CHEERS! :)

@Edgar: Thanks for that great walk through, and for your honest criticisms of the game. I wanted to leave the game's riddles open ended so that you had to think of the different ways the data could be used, but I understand you point that games that are TOO open ended are not enjoyable. I will use the feedback you and the others gave me towards my next game. If you still wanted to share any experiences with me, my email is escapesauce@gmail.com. Or "like" Sauce Productions on facebook!

your solution is sooooo good. I can`t get out without help. But the game is very stupid. Don´t like it!

       Anonymous  8/26/10, 4:10 PM

Brendan,

I know I made a few p' taking comments back there, but I did enjoy this game and appreciate the work that goes into making it. Thank you for that.

I think these contributed to making it difficult to solve:

There are 8 buttons but the curtains have 10/11 positions.

The colours on the walls near the curtains are blue, yellow & red (the red looks dark to me but I wasn't sure if that was due to my PC's settings). This suggested another way to mix the primaries.

WOW it took forever to escape I loved it AWESOME AWESOME game!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Brendan for your reply. Be sure you'll have an e-mail from me any time soon, telling the things I've thought and experienced while playing your game. Like cricketer I also came up with a possible solution for the colors (and mixes of them) using the ones on the wall.

I'd like to make something clear. Had the game been solved by one of us regular players without any hint from you but from ours only as the collective team we like to be, my opinion would have been different. The things I saw and read here tell me that the game NEEDED you to be solved, and I base my opinion on that only... and I know from other authors the difficulty level of a game is hard to measure in the making of it.
Perhaps another way to lead us into counting colored buttons... perhaps a note somewhere (an example of the solving maybe?) leading us to the right track... perhaps using only numbers and not colors (some math in-between?) to avoid us from using the ones on the wall... idk. I'll you tell more in detail later on.
And you know, maybe someone out there could have solved it (maybe someone actually did), and maybe we'll never know... you didn't give the chance to know.
Again, I express what I saw and felt. The logic used in the game was good; the clues were clear, but not enough of them.

And if you take my word as an honest one, let me end by saying that I do look forward to more from you. Keep it up!!

Thanks Brendan.. I think I'd discounted counting wraparound & therefore counting! Got a buzz out of going old Loom Expert style, and picking them from the sounds :)

BUT now I feel totally daft because I can't seem to pick what order to knock out the final code!

Oh. The spots. Got it.

Brendan, thanks. I really enjoyed that game. I partially agree that there were maybe too many ways that the logic could refer to multiple things, sort of exponentially exploding the possibilities. BUT if you were to offer me logic as to how I should have ruled those out I'd probably even retract that. I'm really looking forward to more games from you!

I realize this game is a little old now but, I have to add that I completely enjoyed it. I loved the curtain code that every1 was stuck on. I thought it made perfect sense in the end. Well done @Brendan! You had even the best power puzzlers perplexed! Quite a feat!

out with help from the walkthrough. Excellent as always, Edgar!

I liked this better than the first game in the series, and I look forward to more. Hopefully with a few more hints in the game, but I will probably still need help lol
