Textbook for Riddle

Text Book for Riddles is another challenging brain teaser riddle game created by Boke. This is a simple online riddle game. There are 54 + 11 levels. A purpose of this textbook is to introduce "riddle game" into the people who want to begin it. So this is pretty easy. I prepared exams at the chapter ends for the people who want harder ones though you can skip those exams. I think the last one is really hard. Good luck and have fun!

The rules are simple:
1. Replace the answer on the URL. For example, answer.htm (There are few exceptions.)
2. The answer is lowercase alphabets only.
3. If the answer is more than two words, remove spaces.
4. If the answer is a person name, last name only.

Warning: Please don't post exact answers. Just post hints for the levels!

dang 42 with layers..paint again?

@george, save the pic in your comp. Open it in MS paint. Select the "Fill with color" icon and change the colors on the flag to discover letters in it.

For level 8, what is "LON", please ? I've never heard this acronym, and Google seems to be like me...

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:38 PM

thx @Ellie & Edgar...

Pascale,

LON = League of Nations

Help on 41 george?

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:39 PM

I hate it to be on the next comments page...the preview doesn't show the latest comments

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:39 PM

Use exif on 41

I'm very stuck on 41 too :( Trying to edit the pic, but not doing well this far.

@george, what is exif?

lol got 41 POP!

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:43 PM

@ Pascale I searched such a long time for it : League Of Nations

For 41, save the pic and right-click on it. Go to the 'properties' tab to read the answer.

Thanks @Edgar! I see it now. Read under "information" in properties.

Correction:

for 41, save the pic, right-click on it, select 'properties' and go to the right tab (Summary or Information) to read the answer.

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:46 PM

that's exif...I have it as addon
http://regex.info/exif.cgi

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:47 PM

Hi all! I'm still stuck on level 18, the fall picture.. don't understand "What is next" as winter or image2 don't fit.. Thanks!

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:47 PM

any ideas about 42?

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:48 PM

stupid me...lol...same tool for 42

@DouceMer, you do the right thing. Open the pic, and change the url. Check that you have .jpg

@george, no ideas yet. Trying things, but this is not one of the things I know how to do.

Hm... I can't use the same tool. Must be missing something in there. Going again.

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:53 PM

just copy the image url into the exif viewer

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:54 PM

Wow thanks @ Ellie! I was looking in the properties of it..! Thanks again!

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 2:54 PM

I have no idea what "Change the color index" means

Thanks @george!! Your link worked perfect.

Thanks you @george :)

This comment has been removed by the author.

Which picture would be next?
Right click on the picture and choose open.
Change the url.

POP once again :D

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 3:19 PM

I'm busy reading tutorials for Gimp...

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 3:27 PM

now I know how to change the color index, but I didn't find anything useful.

@george, I started to look into GIMP too, since HEX doesn't give me anything, but I don't know how to use it.

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 3:40 PM

me neither..can't find anything useful

end of the line then

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 3:59 PM

Ok I need some serious help with 8. I have googled everything I can think of and am not coming up with anything. I think I have the three answers but I haven't come up with the final answer putting them all together. HELP!

@tux, i had problems with that level in the year. Maybe if you post the 3 answers you've got?

@tux, if you have all three answers you should have a special award, a year and a category. Find the person that got the award that year.

And I'm ready to give up on lvl 43. Too bad, it's a nice tutorial game. I hope someone will come up with the answer. Thanks for the help this far!!

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 4:04 PM

Oh wow...I feel like an idiot. I had the wrong year when I looked up the winner and hadn't looked up the winner for the correct year. Thanks.

@Ellie, thanks for the link. I'm actually able to convert Bin/Hec/Dec to Ascii in my head. I'm just too dumb to think to just put the result in as the answer... :)

LEVEL 8 HELP!!!

ok i get that its the prize but i have 2004 for the second google SEARCH and i'm thinking its not right since the prize was awarded to 3 of those certain types of scientists that year....???

@group,

LON stands for League of Nations, precursor of nowadays United Nations, so your search should have taken you a while much back in time.
Check out this site, it will help you:

http://worldatwar.net/timeline/other/league18-46.html

I actually got that right after I posted.. I'm not good at these at all now stuck on 9...

26??????

       Anonymous  10/27/10, 11:06 PM

Help with level 1

LOL @Michael! I would never be able to convert that in my head, but I did put the answer in ;)

@group, for lvl 26, look at the word in the URL. That will give you the name of the cipher to use. You can find it in this page among others: http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/
Copy the text and past into the tool, then change the number until you have a word.

@brittbritt, the name of the level gives you all information you need. You see the name in the tab you opened with the game. It startes with "answer is...".

Admin, if this is too much info then please delete this post. I can't think how to hint at this.

Ellie, for 43 edit the colour palette. Pick up the colours with the dropper, note the RGB values, then find those in the palette that match and change to something else. For the white, change to a darker colour.

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 2:56 AM

Huh? Change into what? With which program? Will I see the answer in the pic? I'm so lost...I totally suck in manipulating images.
Is there a tutorial somewhere? Preferably a video?

Open with GIMP, Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. Sorry I can't see how to do it in MS Paint.

Look for the menu entry or look in the help for something such as Edit Palette, Edit Colour Palette, Edit Index.

Select the dropper tool, the one that picks up the colour in the image(it looks like a pipette). Move it over the colours and note the RGB values.

Then open the Edit Palette/Index tool. Click through the squares until you find the ones that match each of the colours and change to a colour that contrasts the existing one. So make a dark colour light, a light colour dark.

This will change all pixels in the image that match that colour.

The answer will then appear in the image.

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 3:57 AM

thx Cricketer...I'm going to try that...again LOL
I can't find this Edit Palette/Index tool...

george, if there is more than one box with the same RGB values, play around and try each. If you make a change and click ok, the answer will literally appear before your eyes.

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 4:04 AM

Thx so much for your effort Cricketer, but I give up...I'm too stupid to use this Gimp...

george, there are instructions here:

http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-indexed-palette-dialog.html

Thank you very much @Cricketer!! I will try it later, too busy now, until late tonight.

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 4:26 AM

I know Cricketer...been on it since yesterday...I can't get it to work...it's driving me crazy...

george, I wonder if you're changing the wrong indexes.

On the map there are two red, two green, and two white together at one end. It's the single red, green and white further along that worked.

I don't think I explained part of this very well.

You can have pixels on the image that are the same colour. But if you change one index, then only the pixels that have that index will change.

If there are French locutors like me who don't know what is the League of Nations, well, it is : la Société des Nations (ancêtre de l'ONU).

Still stuck on level 8. 2 persons won the Nobel prize of physics in 1933 : Schrödinger and Dirac. I tried each of them and both, no way, that's not the answer.

Some sources say that Hungary acceeded to the LON (SDN) in 1933 and other sources say 1922 !

can you help with 31, any clues?

@Pascale yes it is 1922

I don't understand what to do on level 11 :
g e n
av r a
t i e

@Pascale it's a letter play, there are generators on the internet

Im so stupid.. for 31 i forgot to see the page url...

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 6:36 AM

@Elitsa, for 31 use the book and count

Stuck on 18? How do I find the name?

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 6:52 AM

@Danielle, check the source code or right-click the pic and look at properties

@Elitsa, thanks a lot, I feel stupid : I should have tried an anagram solver.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Now, I have problems with level 21 : some kind of glass, with an engraving on it : monthly lady's cup. I can't see anything "wrong" !

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 7:59 AM

@Pascale, do what you did before...look at the name

Thanks a lot, George ! Of course... glass and not grass !

thanks..I finally figured it out. Now I am stuck on 20! I know what I am supposed to do but I cant find the right word!

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 8:39 AM

just swap what's before and after the dot

For level 23, I found what alphabet it is ( http://www.omniglot.com/writing/atlantean.htm ) but, I don't find a valid answer !

I meant level 24, and not 23 !

This comment has been removed by the author.

how do you do a reverse image search?

Nevermind I found Tineye

Pascale, a ch is a c sound as in cat, and a q is a k as in kitten. This should give you a question to google.

@Cricketer9999a, thank you, but I'm sorry, I don't understand your answer. I am at level 24, with the atl... alphabet.

Elitsa, look down at your hands, what can you see?

Pascale, it's no surprise you didn't understand, I'm very sorry I was mixing that up with a completely different riddle and made up alphabet. Oops.

I've had a look at the correct level.

Put them in order and say what you see, as a description of what you see. It's a well known rebus.

@Cricketer9999a thanks a lot

Stuck on 45, finished the crossword and now blank staring

Elitsa, these are good anagram solvers:

Utsire has some unusual results that might not appear in a regular dictionary.

Wordsmith is good because you can set words to include/exclude & minimum letters.

http://anagram-solver.utsire.com/
http://wordsmith.org/anagram/advanced.html

I am stuck on 46. I know hot to move the piece and "capture" the other one, but I can't figure out which combination of letters to use. Any help?

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 11:50 AM

Bangs head on desk...I will be forever stuck on 43...is there any program other than gimp I could use?

@George - here are the step by step process that I figured out with Gimp:

1) Open image in Gimp
2) Click Windows - Dockable Dialogs - then Colormap
3)Click on the color picker tool (the eyedrop looking thing)
4)Click once on the green area of the flag so it puts that as your foreground color in the toolbox
5) Click the small icon on the bottom left of the colormap window (edit color)
6) Slide that rainbow looking bar to some color opposite of green and click ok and you will see some letters
7) Repeat this for the other 2 colors of the flag and you got it!

Now come help me on 46!

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 12:09 PM

Thx again Cricketer :)
I will give it a last try with your tutorial then...

It's Graham - :)

and thanks from me Cricketer, the anagram solver i sued didnt have this word...

POP! I got 46...on to 47!

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 12:18 PM

nothing works after 4)...my settings must be wrong somehow...

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 12:19 PM

oops...sorry Graham!!!

george - Are you able to open the colormap dialog box? And do you have a little icon on the bottom left of that window that looks like a pencil and paper? If so click that then move the color slider. Are you seeing something different?

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 12:27 PM

right now I see nothing...I'm reinstalling Gimp..

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 12:30 PM

And now it's working!!!!!
Yeah...I have the little icon now!!!!
Thank you Graham!!!

Yeah - you don't need to do a "custom" install! ;-)

47 is easy if you know how to do those puzzles and I have the image - just not sure what country it is???

Bingo! to 48...

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 12:37 PM

If you wait 2 or 3 days maybe I'll have caught up and can help you LOL

Did you get 43? The next few are easier.

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 12:44 PM

I'm doing crosswords on 45

on 49 - be prepared to cut some puzzle pieces for 48

49 & 50 were easy

Need help with 51 - What are we supposed to do with the image?

For 51 - hard to see but I got it - use paint to drop fill the black part at the bottom and then convert what you see - look at name of pic for clue

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 1:32 PM

I'm puzzled on 48...dang...manipulating again! grrh..I hate that

george - look at the name of the picture and use .jpg in browser and I think you will get what to do next

im finished but i cant make the final exam...

stuck on 54 - last one!

help with 54 elitsa??? Where to begin?

@graham look at the image's name. it will help you out

I figured that but it's not helping! haha

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 1:40 PM

I know what I need to do...I have them all, but I need to rotate...don't like this one bit...I'll need a break.

lol well maybe it will be a spoiler -

bottom right, then google it

SNAP! just had to figure where to start!

And done! Thanks for the help everyone!

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 1:44 PM

So I need help on 19. I got monday.jpg but I don't know what to do with that picture. I see people referencing "granmaa" but I have no idea what that is.

congrats! if you figure out the exam, let me know

as weell as the other exams lol

george - if you have a printer, it's easier to print each picture and put them together.

@tux if monday is just a letter, you will need more wouldnt you?

tux, rearrange the letters of granmaa and what do you get?

Finally, I can be at the computer.
Thank you very much again @cricketer for all your help on lvl 43. I found out that I don't have any of your suggested programs, and the ones I have can't help me solve this. I tried to download GIMP, but there is something missing from it that won't let it run properly. After a few tries I decided to let it go. At least I understand how to solve it, but I have to leave the game there. Good luck to the rest of you!

       Anonymous  10/28/10, 2:31 PM

aww no, Ellie...that's too bad...try to reinstall like I did, or I can mail you the answer if you like

@george, I tried to reinstall it several times from different sources. I am playing the ultimate riddle right now, but please, email me the answer if you want to.

this is super annoying.. i still dont get 31...

count WHAT?

@group, count letters in chapters in deuteronomy book

I understand but there are many different versions! i dont see how this makes any sense. so...

1-12-8

ch. 1
12th letter, 8th letter?

either way , what about the different versions?

@group,
it goes like chapter 1, verse 12, 8th letter.

...as for the versions, use the American Standard one.

@Cricketer9999a, thank you again, but level 24 doesn't seem to be a rebus. All what I can see is some letters of the atlantean alphabet...

Im not having any joy with 31 either, I have found all the letters but they are not an anagram or letter shift or any of the cipher methods so far

If anyone is still working on this, can someone clue me in on 39 please? I have the countries I think, and I understand what TLD stands for, I just don't understand how to merge the two.

@Justin,
for level 39, anagram them all together. The pairs of letters in each TLD don't have to go necessarily together. Come up with an 8-letter word.

argh... thanks Edgar... I'm better than that! I should have figured that one out!

ahhhhhhhhh thank you... i still think it was silly of them to use the bible considering.... silly silly silly...

thank you very very much Edgar!

Pascale, translate the letters into our alphabet, then put them in order.

@Cricketer9999a, thank you again. Yes, that's what I did, the letters are hijklmno, they are already in order and hijklmno is not the answer... This is definitely too difficult for me, I'm giving up.

@Pascale, if you google the letters you have in order, you'll find a link to the answer. 5 letter word.

can i get some help on 34 please?

I keep wanting to "look down" at my keyboard? but not sure where the numbers come in....

nevermind! way easy it just CLICKED! got it =)

on 36

errrrrrrr i dont know anything about the New World Symphony! Can't figure it out.... 36

please, can i get some help for lvl34? if i look down, mine is italian. i googled for the american, but if i count, there are also numbers and punktuation marks...

@Sabine,
here's a qwerty keyboard

@Edgar: thanks a lot, i got it :)

@Ellie, thank you. I just found the answer thanks to Google. I would never have found this riddle by myself, it's difficult.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Level 31 is really annoying. It's really a weird idea to base a riddle on a religious book (and on a precise version of this book). I still don't get the answer : I found the letter, but these letters don't have a valid anagram.

Pascale, I used this site: www.online-bible.org.uk

@Cricketer9999a, thank you. I'll try this. I've already tried the Standard American Bible and the New Standard American Bible... )-:

This comment has been removed by the author.

On level 36, the title is important, so, let's use a Dvorak keyboard layout : http://dvorak.mwbrooks.com/layout.gif
I found the word, but it is not the answer ! I tried also the name of the author of the p...c symphony, but it is not the answer either.

Pascale, I think you have the right word, 8 letters p******c? Don't forget to put htm at the end.

If you want to check your word, purplehell is back up and that has a conversion tool.

@Cricketer9999a, thank you very much !
Yes, I think that I had the right word p.th.t.c and I did put .htm after it. I'm restarting today and it works... I don't understand why it didn't work yesterday...

On level 45, I miss the 3 across and 4 down...

4 is a general name for a sports person, a******.

3 across, think of an escapers favourite tool. What do they take out with it?

@Cricketer9999a, thank you for your help. Still stuck with those definitions, anyway.

Pascale, here you go:

3 across: spoilerscrewspoiler
4 down: spoilerathletespoiler

Help with 44, please, anyone?

@group, for 44

Download the MP3 file and open it with an audio software to read the ID3 tag. The answer is there.

@Edgar, you saved me again (-:
I don't know what to do (as often) on level 46...

Pascale, for 46:

You should know how the knight moves in the chessboard. Move the white knight on the bottom to capture all of the black pieces and keep the record of the squares you move. Remember you're starting on the square C-O (coordinates).

Thank you, Edgar, I'm going to try this. Yes, I know how the knight moves, it's the only thing that I know about chess ! (-:

What are we supposed to do on level 50 ?

@Pascale: look closer at the URL

This comment has been removed by the author.

@Sabine, thanks a lot, but... I feel even more stupid now : I tried to remove "do", I tried to remove "not", I tried to remove both of them, I tried to remove "change"... but this is not the answer !

sorry, i read it just now... Pascale, try to read the WHOLE URL, not only the last ending.

@Sabine, thanks you so much... I feel very very stupid. It was just written here !

I'm stuck on level 54...

@Pascale, that's the last level. I wouldn't like to spoil it to you, but... find a way to read something in that grid.

...I'm around in case.

hm.., did I say I'm around? lol, that will be you ;)

yw Pascale :D i thought you'll feel stupid, because you have written the solution a few times in your questions... lol... for lvl 54 think like a snail

Thank you very much @Edgar and @Sabine ! I have read what is in this grid (o: Now, I'm trying to find the solution of this last level.
You have been very helpful and patient with me !
