No idea at all what I did.
But somehow I managed to get a code panel and after that a key!?
Trying to do the same steps in a new game, to find out how.
Ah, all you have to do is click the big 3, not the little one on the paper. And after that on 2 is a code panel and on 4 a door with a key.
And now I have a piece of paper from the code panel.

You can places the handles outside 4. But still you can't go down.

Well, with the second code panel on 2 the language problem begins I'm afraid, no idea at all.
By the way, didn't had to brute force the colors. They're on the paper, it's the Italian flag I think.

@ST, if you go right from the window you'll find cutters and you can use handle on the little window on the stairs

S-t, just take off the metal rod, but first take the wheel.
Ah and the third gear is behind the blue door.
The gears are; 1st from the panel on the wall, the 2nd from the pendulum, the 3rd from the upper tower.

@bujjamma - really don't remember what I did, but try jamming the ball and pendulum with the rod
or maybe at this point you have the hammer from taking the lever out of the machine upstairs - that may be what you use

The rod you have to use as a lever somewhere upstairs. Then click the lever (and take the rod back, it is hammer then).
I think after using the lever the pendulum stopped and if you click the ball then, it will smash the pendulum and all (including the ball) falls down and then you can take the ball and smething from the pendulum.
That is if I remembered correctly (have to do it from memory).
Oops didn't refresh, maybe Annaby is right. I really don't recall anymore.

As I remember correctly you have to use the gears on that board where you took one gear off (I think it was on the top side of that board).
The hint in what order to use them was on the plate with food/meal.
And I really don't remember anymore where I used the hammmer.
Maybe, a bit later, if you have the patience to wait for that (watching some kind of scifi-horror movie now) I will replay. Right now I'm just posting everytime when there's a commerical break.

@bujamma, there are 3 dots on the metal plate above the gears in the tower. Place the three gears you have there - the Grey, Silver, Bronze clue didn't help me all that much, I just played with them til they fit. When they are in the right spots, you can click the lever just under them and the lift goes down. Then turn around and go in the black space through the door. Click up and see "Sadness" and hammer on it until all your sadness, despair, etc are overcome and you're out!

WALKTHROUGH
WALL 1
- Zoom in on the sign on the wall and see you have to click 3.
- GO RIGHT (2x).
WALL 3
- Click on the 3 on the wall and now you have revealed a code machine on wall 2 and a door on wall 4.
- GO RIGHT.
WALL 2
- Zoom in on the code panel and see above the code panel the roman numerals are shapes. Combine this with the pairs of roman numerals under the code panel. LIke the first one is two times I and I is C mirrored. So two of them above each other make a 3. Do it with all the pairs and you get the code 3001. Put it in, click ok, click ok and take the PAPER and see you have opened the door.
- GO RIGHT (2x).
WALL 4
- Take the KEY from the panel next to the door.
- Click the word 'OPEN' to open the door. And now (or maybe after doing the right code on wall 2) a code panel is revealed on wall 3.
- GO RIGHT.
WALL 3
- Zoom in on the code panel and see it's about VICTORY. Look at your paper in the inventory and see victory is green-white-orange/yellow. Click those colors when they appear on the flashing button and then click 'OPEN' and take the 2 HANDLES.
- GO LEFT.
WALL 4
- Go through the door and click the tower in the sky for a new view. Put the handles in the holes and then zoom in on the ground to see the number 2579.
- GO all the way OUT and to...
WALL 2
- A new code panel has popped up. Zoom in and put in that code you just saw (2579), click OK, click OPEN and then click the slot below BRIDGE and see it's ON now.
- GO RIGHT (2x), OUT and zoom all the way in on the tower in the sky. Then go back all the way (first back arrow and then zooming in on on place where you came from), notice that where you came from is called 'prison' and go to...
WALL 3
- A new code panel has appeared here now. Zoom in on it and type in the obvious answer (you just saw it, it is; prison). Click OK and click OPEN and take the BRICK.
- GO TO wall 4 and out all the way till zoomed in all the way on the tower in the sky and place the brick in the slot, click the brick and go in.
HALL with swingin PENDULUM
- Go through the door and all the way up the stairs.
WINDOW
- Zoom in on the window and take the NIPPERS (bottom right on the screen).
- ZOOM OUT and GO RIGHT.
WALKTHROUGH part 2
GEARS
- Take the HANDLE (top left).
- GO LEFT and DOWN.
HALF WAY UP the STAIRS
- Zoom in on the closed window and use the nippers to open it. Put the handle on the device in the window and click it and see the zeppelin with meal on it.
- GO DOWN (4x), DOWN ARROW on the right of the screen and zoom all the way on on the prison and go to...
WALL 1
- A table with a meal on it has appeared. Zoom in on it, eat the meal and see the GEARS HINT (gold left, silver top right and bronze bottom right). Don't zoom out, but zoom in under the table and use the key to take the KEY HOLE PANEL.
- GO all the way back to the other tower and up the stairs to...
HALF WAY UP the STAIRS
- Zoom in on the window and place the key hole panel on the top left hook.
- Zoom out and zoom in on the panel on the wall left on the stairs and use the key (2, 3 times) on the shadow keyhole to open that panel. Take the ROD from the top right.
- ZOOM OUT, UP the stairs and RIGHT (2x).
LEVER DEVICE
- Put the rod in the lever device and click it (now you stopped the pendulum from swinging).
- GO LEFT (2x), GO DOWN.
HALF WAY UP the STAIRS
- Zoom in on the panel on the left and click the ball. It will open the pendulum and the ball will drop.
- ZOOM OUT and GO DOWN (2x).
HALL with PENDULUM
- Take the BALL.
- Zoom in on the pendulum and take GEAR #1.
- ZOOM OUT and GO all the way up the stairs.
WINDOW
- Zoom in on the window, zoom in on the bricks and GO all the way up the outside stairs.
OUTSIDE DOOR
- Place the ball in the slot next to the door and go in.
GREY ROOM
- Zoom in on the panel in the back and take GEAR #2.
- GO all the way down (till back in the window view) and GO RIGHT.
GEARS
- Take the middle gear. That's GEAR #3. Place the gears on the top part of this view according to the hint from the eaten meal (so, gold left, silver top right and bronze bottom right) and click the handle on the bottom and you're back in...
WINDOW (but now closed)
- GO RIGHT (2x).
LEVER DEVICE
- Take the rod back and now it's magically a HAMMER.
- GO LEFT (2x), ALL THE WAY DOWN and into the dark door. Use the hammer on the word SADNESS and every word that appears after that and finally go up the ladder that pops up and you're out.
