Dark game.
Anyway took a branch from going down in the first screen and went up and up and opened the door.

Hi @s-t. A litle annoying. Screen changes are slow and the text stays way too long.

Inside a took a rope from the floor.
And first arrow right I took a knife from the table.

anyway, also have a rope (?) and cleaver

Hi annaby,
After the first text I had not much text anymore (besides down in the cage).

use the stick to get the plank on top of the bookcase

Inside, first arrow up I used the branch on top of the bookcase to get a board.

Well, I could go up the stairs with using the plank/board on the stairs, but can't do anything there.

stuck. Opening scene says another rope in ground but can't pick up

the stick opened the door at the top of the stairs. Thought it was locked and immovable

matches in one of the boxes. Back downstairs to light the candle, get key from skeleton

Ah thanks Annaby.
Thought I tried that, but I guess not.

also pick up a brick in the room with the boxes

pick up shovel in graveyard, back out to get other piece of rope

Combined ropes and brick and threw it over the graveyard fence.

combine ropes, tie to brick and climb over fence

Oh I guess you're out after that.

then you go in the house and after a w hole lot of text, the end.
Rather disappointing

Yep not much of a game.
But still, we escaped.

and no one came to play with us!

Nice look. a little slow. It would be nice if you could click by some of the verbiage.

There was a new Selfdefiant out.

Can't find the game on the Newgrounds web page. Do I have to register?

I rather liked this game... I like the dark, gloomy feeling of it... The story is great ad since it's been made in only 3 hours it's really a good game for playing, too... I guess that if there was more time given for making it, it would be longer and more interesting, although I wouldn't change the story a bit, only maybe fill in with more clues

No thanks. Can't see anything.

I actually really liked this game.
I loved the moody feel. The writer's text really added to the gloom and sadness that develops by the end.
Wish it had been longer, actually. More to do.
But the cut scenes to and from 'all text' were rather long. It was like "beware of an open book!" (except the book in the library. I actually clicked it twice to read the whole thing)
But even the slow progression between scenes really added to the somber mood, as well.

Whoa, Rantelvena...it only took the guy 3 hours to make this?!

@Spocklap:
granted, you posted hours ago...so the chances of you still being here, waiting for an answer seem highly unlikely...
BUT, for anybody else with your question...
click the link above posted by escapegames24, of course.
And then, in the peach octagon shape with the rainbow...press "PLAY"...not the Rainbow.
Although, if you do press the rainbow, it does take you to NewGrounds website and the game is listed there, as well. (but even there, to start the game, you must hit "PLAY")

And, I see on the website that these game creators had a weekend to make the games.
So, it was 3 days not 3 hours. :-)
Which is still cool.

happy ? end

the stick doesn't work on the door at the top of the stairs for me, am I clicking on the wrong place?

@Amanda, ty

EG24 great site. Every game a walkthrough etc.

WALKTHROUGH
To start the game click 'play' in the orange pink logo on the left and after that click the white words 'The Outsider".
Also if you want the full experience of this sad/dark game; take your time and read all the text and turn the sound on
.

FOREST
- GO DOWN

DARK FOREST
- Take the BRANCH from the ground (between the two arrows).
- GO DOWN and 2x UP.

DOOR
- Click the door to see the code panel and the hint for it. Well, the first has to be double the third, so it's 4 and 2, or 6 and 3, or 8 and 4. The second has to be a prime number so it's 2, 3, 5 or 7. But all three together must be 9 and the only way to make that is with 432, so type it in and click 'check' and the door will open. GO IN.

HALLWAY
- Take ROPE #1 (left on the floor).
- GO middle arrow UP.

BOOKCASES
- Use the branch to take the BOARD from top of the right bookcase.
- GO DOWN to the hallway and then RIGHT.

TABLE
- Take the CLEAVER from the table.
- GO DOWN.

HALLWAY
- Use the board on the gap on the stairs and then go up the stairs (2x).

ROUND DOOR
- Use the cleaver on the door and then the branch to open it.
- GO UP.

4 CRATES ROOM
- Take the BRICK from the floor.
- Click the most right crate and you have the MATCHES.
- GO DOWN (3x) and RIGHT.

TABLE
- Use the matches on the candle and then take the KEY from the skeleton.
- GO DOWN and all the way up again to the...

4 CRATES ROOM
- Use the key on the keyhole in the door and GO UP.

GRAVEYARD
- Take the SHOVEL from the right.
- GO all the way down to the first scene.

FOREST
- Use the shovel on the circle in the ground (left) and take ROPE #2.
- GO all the way up again to the...

GRAVEYARD
- Combine the two ropes and then combine it with the brick and use that rope and brick on the fence and GO UP and you're out.

Nice ode to H.P. Lovecraft's classic tale. Thanks for the submission!

Oops there might be a mistake in the WT.
Did a lot of things at the door upstairs and maybe I used the cleaver on the branch too before it worked on the door.

What a fantastic story, with a brilliant twisted end!
If more games had storylines, like this one, we wouldn't get new games very often!

I loved the slow gameplay - it supports the whole sinister calming effect.
Nothing drasticallly processor-intensive killed my pc this time, or even my mobile broadband, which was nice for a change =)

That twist at the end made the whole dark process doubly worth playing through, but I wish I could have called BACK some of the dialogue because I wasn't concentrating enough at first, and some vanished, never to be seen again, before I read it properly.
I'm going to play this again to get the whole thing, but, as I know the end now, it'll be somewhat redundant.

This got an "excellent" from me.
Haha, if I ever got developing games, you'd all HATE them =P
