Have a lot of items, but no actual progress.

Got bag, knife, nippers & stethoscope but can't find any place to use them.
You can go down from the first scene.
use knife near pictures then nippers
Combined stethoscope and gloves. Need to give soporific to the guy in the bank but can't.
combine rubber gloves with stethoscope
Probably need to use Soporific on the cowboy and get his keys....but no luck

I have the gate open, but it won't let me forward to the vault, and won't let me use the stethoscope and gloves.

Ahh got it, out the rag was the thing hanging by the cactus gave it to the cowboy after adding the bottle of stuff took the keys opened the gate took the money in the bag went back to the horse and away.

I can see the rag, but I can't grab it !
It's been a long time since we last heard that "YEAH!!!"
I got out without help, but there are one or two tricky bits [which I got by random clicking].
This used to be a walkthrough site, so let's be nostalgic for a while:
The start scene has your horse rested and ready for your escape. Click his hindquarters to empty the bag of your equipment [the empty swag bag and your stethescope for the safe] and turn left.
In the foreground of this scene is a knife to get on the right, and on the left is a pair of bolt croppers [called "nippers" in the description text - they are baby crabs to us english, haha].
Turn right then use the arrow bar at the base of the screen to turn to face the other direction.
Turn left and get the rope lying there on the veranda.
Left again is a greyish rag hanging just in front of a covered wagon, but it is too high to get.
Right three times and click the right drawer handle. Get the black bottle on the left side of the open drawer. It's "soporific" or sleep-inducing drug. [You are a bank robber, not a murderer, and besides, it saves wear and tear on bullets].
Left once and see a wide doorway with a whip that's yours for the taking, hanging on the wall on the right side.
The other items there look like more instruments of torture to me, but I shan't dwell on them =)
So thoughtful of the townsfolk to leave exactly the stuff you need, just hanging and lying around!
Do we think this is all an insurance scam by the townsfolk?
Anyway, the whip might give you a hint on how to get that irresistable rag by the wagon, so back up and go left twice, make sure the whip is highlighted and win - A RAG!! Woo-hoo!
Right twice and face the bank again.
Click the bank doorway to enter.
A pair of gloves sits conveniently on chair at the counter, so grab them [one size fits all] and go left.
Here you see a wild west type of security guard, staring sullenly at the wooden wall, wondering what it was that stopped him getting a job at tesco. You need his keys.
If you ponder on your inventory items [or simply cheat and randomly click them all to see what combines], you may get the idea that the "soporific" needs to be on the rag to work - like chloroform in old kidnap films.
Use this combination on the daydreaming bank guard [Did we really need to do that? He looks out of it already!]
He collapses onto his table, so just to be sure, rope him up like the steer that he is [he deserves it for being such an idiot], then pinch the keys [hanging on his left hip - for people with monitors that won't turn up any more].
One more job for the preparation.
Go left.
The bank vault is alarmed. [Just trust me, okay?]
No, it isn't simply horrified by the hideous pictures on the wall ["alarmed" also means frightened, for non-english speakers].
The sheriff and his posse are all at Madam Sherry's bordello on the corner, which has a direct alarm link to the bank - they'd be here like a shot if you triggered the alarm.
You can just about make out some colours in a crack in the wooden wall below the pictures, and a knife will pry the loose board off nicely.
Remember your knife?
Hooray - wires to cut.
This is a simple town, so no booby-trap devices. You can simply snip away at them with your baby crabs/nippers/bolt croppers to achieve the desired effect and disable the alarm.
Turn right three times to face your last obstacle - the gate to the bank vault.
The keys you borrowed fit here nicely, so click on the keyhole.
Gate open!
In the inventory, use the gloves on your stethescope to combine them and leave them highlighted. Click to zoom in on the vault door and then click the large rotating handle.
LOADSA MONEY!!!
Now your bag should be highlighted, so grab armfuls [well, a bagful] of the papers and back out.
Go back, left and left, to your patient horse, use the bag on him to load it up - and ride like the wind outta there!
