Got a piece of paper with what I think is the clue for the box, but can't figure it out...

I thought the candles had the clues for the door ... but no luck

tried different combinations from candle clue but no luck so far. I can't really tell the symbols apart!

Ah it is ... just a little more complex than I thought.

Miller, my combo is: spade, square, arrow up, arrow down, or other way round... but this doesn't work!

use hint from shields on swords and take several items out of cupboard (so far two marbles and a hart shape)

@Kias: as Miller said: combine paper clue with eyes from statues. so you got top middle symbol in first row, then left and right symbols from middle row.

@leithian: start with arrow down, spade, arrow down, square. get it?

now completely stuck with several clues from cupboard. don't understand any of them...

hmmm stuck again! ;) there were only three symbols in cupboard, right? trying to combine them with box in cupboard nr. 6.

anyone could open the center compartment of cupboard? also need an order for the device from middle right compartment. it has probably to do with the 3 symbols inside the compartments...

I think I'm where you are leithian. don't understand them though...they look all the same except for the upper parts (1,2,3)

2 candles now, stuck at that middle right cabinet.

Did anyone note the positions of the icons on the shields? The crown, eyes, and tree? The positions must have some significance.

I am still stuck on the four shapes for door.

Swords one and three open center cabinet. Note the symbols in the cabinets and refer to their position against the sheet of paper to get four symbols for door.

Pushed buttons according to swords on top row, left shield. Warrior face slid open.

Maybe the combination is different for everybody.

does codebox in cupboard have anything to do with candles? the sympols under left and right fields resemble candle shapes. maybe we have to light them? obviously I have no idea what to do in these rooms lol

Ack, I am so stuck on these two puzzles. It must have something to do with negative space. This Detarou is much harder than the others!

finally got the symbols for cupboard box! light at the end of the tunnel, guys! ;)

@leithian: how? I just placed the 3 shapes, got a rope, got the unlucky fellow out of the hole and lightened the candles...

Wow, that moved everything along quickly! Opened cb now, have blue marble.

Oh, that's interesting, I used the rope to tie the handle of the contraption. I didn't use it to get the guy out of the hole.

I opened the slider door by chance...

That must give a different end, Miller. Tying the contraption lever gives combo for cb.

@Miller: did you put candles in the "compartment"? do you still have the rope? I did not save the guy yet... you need rope to secure the door to candle compartment, then you see shapes for box code!

@designerbooks: I'm pretty sure I'll get the "bad end" since this guy seems to be a huge burden... ;-)

what to do after placing the marbles?

Marbles go back in 1st room, in alcove in wall. Don't know the order, though . . .

How did you open the arrow door exactly ?

@Zazie: look at the slider door, where face came up. do you see the placement of "knobs" (don't know how to call these things on the door) on the left and right side? use this on the buttons by small face-statue!

Must have gotten the good end, I don't see the evil panda anywhere.

@Miller: sorry, I think mine was open already? but not sure! maybe after placing the moon, star etc. shapes? but this could have lighted the fire... sorry again, can't remember!

on my picture there are the 3 guys (armed) and the poor guy still trapped in those vases. I can press a replay button...

hi guys in the third room now, but don't know what the symbols in the cupboard (middle row, right door) are supposed to be. any hints?

I think there must be another ending which no one of us got. or was that ID inside the bag just a red herring?

Ninja, you won't find out until you get into the next two rooms. See the hints above for getting into the next room.

Miller, my end showed the 3 armed guys, and the trapped guy was in a cutout picture frame on the left with a wistful smile on his face.

@ninja: you have to light the candles, place them and after that use the rope on the panel to fix it. after that you can see the symbols above the candles

replayed and got Millers end, with all four of the gang. In the previous end, there were only three and the bald guy smiling alone all forgotten...
@ninja: only look at the top part of symbols: it's numbers 1-4, combine this with symbol paper you have in your inventory!

@ninja: oops, sorry, misread your question!

i've read hints above, designerbooks. but i just don't know what slider door gives the clue for the arrow door. is it that big face that slided apart?

@ninja: the big face is slided apart and then you should see pins on each side of the door. so 1st press left, 2x right and so on...

thanks for all the help! is there a way to take back the marbles and replace them or do i have to restart?

Nope, once the marbles are placed you can't get them back.

I have no idea how to open the slider door in the third room (with the big face)

I have no idea how you people got anywhere in this game....I finally used the spoiler for the first door!
But really...it is all a mystery to me....and not very many hints...is anyone going to come back and do a walkthrough....pretty please?????

I'm in that sword room and can't get the hints in there , Oh where oh where are the clues we need oh where oh where can they be ( singing to myself ) lol

Well...now I see that the sword positions have to do with which door opens on the 3x3 cabinet....
I have a red and a green round thing!

I have the red green marble and the moon shape and heart but can't get the codes for the door

ok...got the middle open...and the door open....used the paper and hand signs from cabinet!

that's what I can't get how is the hand signs read?

What do we do with the things we gathered? I got a star from the third room now.

The hands have fingers....1, 2, 3, 4....one is top right, two is bottom left....etc!

They then correspond to the symbols on the paper....want a spoiler?

An amazing game....aside from the initial frustration/stupidity on my part...really fun!

So, if you save the guy from the hole, you get the rope back...otherwise you use it an don't save the guy...lolol

I put the 3 candles in the slots but I can't keep that door down I used my rope to get the guy out of the pit ?

the rope worked got the blue marble now from the cupboard

I made it out lol the gargoyles give the last clue after the placement of marbles in first room

nokra, I won't do a walkthrough just now, but I've made me a "9-cabinet rack cookbook" to see what to find where. It will also save you from always having to switch screens to and fro.

Here it is:

RACK WITH 9 CABINETS "COOKBOOK"
(note: for example "3, 5" means press the 3th and 5th sword down (from the right))

"CROWN"
upper left - 2, 5 (inside: GREEN SPHERE)
middle left - 1, 5 (inside: RED SPHERE)
lower left - 4, 5 (inside: HEART SHAPE and clue #2)

"EYES"
upper center - 2, 3 (empty)
middle center - ?, ? (inside: MOON SHAPE and clue #4 SPOoneILERSPthOILreeER)
lower center - 3, 4 (empty)

"TREE"
upper right - 2, 6 (inside: another candle w/same pattern and clue #1)
middle right - 1, 6 (inside: 3-symbol code box)
lower right - 4, 6 (inside: pink bag with wallet;
it belongs to Kunio SAWADA with the code 062801; also inside: clue #3)

Whatever, let me note that the strange numbering of the clues was done for a reason ;-)
Can make your life a lit easier, if you know how to utilize it :)

Just when I most need a detarou game, here is one!

WALKTHROUGH Part one:

The game starts with a heated argument.
First room.
The young superhero and the mystic are blaming each other for letting the door slam behind them.
You seem to be trapped with a group of people who had no business getting trapped in the first place - and they know it.

Turning around the room you see there are two other people trapped in this place with you. A sullen-looking archer wih pink hair and a poor strongman who kicked his luggage chest once too often [anyone remember rhincewind and his chest?]
Behind strongman is an alcove containing a box and three tiny windows.
Next view left of that shows a door with four shaped buttons.
Next left, and behind the sulky archer, is a paper on the wall for you.
Still in this view, click each gargoyle and notice its eyes.

The buttons on the box on the opposite wall are in a triangular formation, so, looking at your paper, there are only two triangle arrangements:
oxo
xox
ooo

and

ooo
oxo
xox

Try these and find my first solution gets the box open when you press the central button.
Get a candle with a pattern on it.
Click the back of the box lid to shut it - it needs to be closed for later.

Turn to face the buttons door and notice that the candle pattern can be made of every button shape; some upside-down.
As further help, look at the candle and pretend eack pattern line is a break, and you will see the shapes you need to press.
There are some fine spoilers above, so all I will add is that you need to press a sequence of eight buttons.
When you complete that the door will slide away.

Second room.
Your pals have followed you in.
Not even a thank you!
And those two are still at it.

Six swords and three shields are in front of you, so click each shield to zoom in and see a shape you will recognise, along with three sequences of lines.
Notice that the shapes correspond with their position on your paper.
[i.e., crown is top left, eyes are middle and tree is top right.]
Back out and play with the swords and you will soon realise what the line sequences represent.
The swords push down and pull up.
Take a look around you and see the strongman struggling with mutant pottery as well as furniture now. He is standing next to a set of nine cupboards.
After a bit of experimentation you will quickly realise that the sword heights on the wall are the unlock code for the cupboard in the corresponding position.
If you treat the cupboards like a 1-9 keypad, code in position 1 opens cupboard in position 1, etc.
The middle cupboard has no code, but if you look at the wall codes you can see a pattern.
The left "down" sword stays the same for each column, and in each row the first swords are in positions 2, 1 and 4.
The middle cupboard is spoiled above, but it isn't hard to work out.

Open them all, leaving the "6" cupboard open. The one with the device.
You will get green and red lenses, golden heart and moon shapes, a second candle and see four squaredy-design hand signals holding up fingers.
Use the cupboards with hand signals to discover which symbol on your paper needs to be put on which button on the door next to the sulky archer..
I'm not spoiling that, so get it written down.
Don't forget to press the middle "enter" button. The door will slide away.

Third room.
The gang seem to be happy to give in to your superior puzzling skills and the two fighting are tired out.
Strongman seems to have vanished.
Oops! there's a hole in the floor - I wonder....
Oh, there he is, haha.

WALKTHROUGH Part two:

In the view with the hole there is a nook set into the wall, with a device you can't operate yet and a golden star shape for you.

Having a look around will show you a big version of this fierce head with a large sword either side.
Note that the left is down and right is up.

Back on the little version, you can see a crown shape on its forehead, which suggests to you that the sword sequence for the crown shape [position 1 on a keypad, remember?] could work for something.
The device here has a left button and a right button.
The swords by the big head tell you that left is down and right is up.
Enter the crown sword sequence on the two buttons [spoiled somewhere above].
Massive Heed [Mike Meyers tribute] slides open. They were hiding a screen-like area on the wall with a panel you can't work yet.

Before you approach, notice the arrangement of the dowels on the edges of the door. [L,R,R,L,L,R,R,L]
Try this on the device you just used and find another door slides away.
Go into the small area first and collect a third candle on the panel.
Back out to the third room.

Fourth room.
Ignore sulky archer and enter the new blue room.
Turn left and zoom in on the grey block leaning against the wall.
See three nice little holes shaped just like your golden items.
Back out one and notice that the hatch has opened.
Get your new rope and explore a bit.
On the opposite wall is a lever which won't stay down, so zoom in on the opening and wonder what you've got three of that would sit on those spikes.
The candles won't go, but what might help encourage them? Being lit!
Handy little flames are ready to ignite them behind you, so get them lit and then try them back here.

At this point I decided to try to rescue Strongman from his prison, so I returned to the third room, used the rope on him, then came back in here.
I've read since that this will determine which ending you get. [The post says there are two endings. Detarou on an "ending diet"?] =D

Rescuing gets you the ending with red writing and he's in your gang still, leaving him gives you black writing, and he's represented on a locket-like cutout image, smiling; possibly there in memory only.
Whichever you choose, you must use the rope [AFTER saving him or not] on the eyelet hole beneath the lever to tie the sliding mechanism up. You won't be able to use the rope to get him later.
Zoom in and see what you've achieved, according to the comments above..
NOW you can open the device in cupboard "6", so remember these symbols, go back to room two and get a blue lens.

You can either fart about for a while, wondering where to put these objects, or cut out the headless-chicken routine and go back to room one.
Remember I said you should shut that box?
The lenses will insert themselves, so no need to worry about the order, just plop them in and turn around.
Three beams of light have decorated those gargoyles.
Have a peep at each one and note the symbols you see.

Enter these onto the panel between the big head halves in the same order that you saw them, left to right, and get a key.

There's only one door with a keyhole in it, and it isn't far away.

Well, something astonished me: that they actually gave away the sword combination for the center middle cupboard!

I never found it, just had to try combinations that were not in the guide I set up to orientate myself.
Can you please give a hint where this combination is revealed?

The clue for the middle combination is in the other eight given ones.
You may know that I rely on my real-life scrawlings during most games? I'd drawn a 3x3 grid with the given patterns on and it jumped out at me.....
I'll mark all the positions of the swords numerically now, to make it clearer:
2,5 - 2,3 - 2,6
1,5 - ?,? - 1,6
4,5 - 4,3 - 4,6

See it now? [columns and rows]
It helps to have a touch of OCD, just occasionally.

I've just had a look at your "cookbook" method - [nice analogy] =D - and you can see the pattern there, too.
Just write 4,3 in the "Eyes" row, where you've put "lower center - 3, 4 (empty)", and you already had it!
I always write walkthroughs too late, but I hope they help future players.
I'd love to catch a Detarou game live one day =D

I still cannot open the cupboard six. the signs that came up with yellow-light background from the candle-placed thingamajig (or whatever you call it), even if i placed them on cupboard six, do NOT give me the blue tablet. :-(
