I'm pretty sure the "K" stands for "BLACK" (like in CMYK coloring system) and in the last minute, the author thought it was too less obvious and changed 4 color buttons to 3 (omitting the black one)
Well, was easy, altough... I spent some time looking for something to break the chain and take the key from drawer instead of taking box to it :)

I got out with the hint that the wadded paper would open the color box. Then I could see the possible letters/clue. I guessed the door code.
odd game -- it felt like the clues were confusing and the codes more a matter of guessing rather than real hints.
