the hint is at the top of the TV. make the arrows dark and in the right directions

POP! Got it. I'd never been able to zoom in on the plant to the right of that little couch before, but I finally found the right view (facing the crazy yellow clock) to do it from.

I can't find the spade and can't get the 9 dot puzzle.
@Faye -- the 9-dot puzzle: look at book by bed and see an "S" sign -- use that as the order to press the buttons. There's no arrow but go upper right to bottom left (as if you were drawing and arrow).
I think that gave the spade.
