tried opening the second compartment above the window (to the left) with all tools from swiss army knife and key but no go
stuck and resorting to trying to spell words for the 4 digit code

Click right side of locked drawer to see a new view - used SD to remove screws.
From there, pretty easy to get into 2nd compartment.
numbers & letters on the seat backs but I haven't figured out what they mean

In 2nd compartment, found safe containing a die. To open safe twirl dial and listen for sound, and push number until you get a green light.
And....stuck!

ok, opened back door, found flashlight and safe and strange machine
when I use the flashlight on the note, the 'L' turns red
@blooby: Drawers are to the left if you are looking at the steering wheel. SD is one of the options from the Swiss Army knife you find in the floor (look for black mark).
AHA!!! Swap Swiss Army Knife to the toothpick, and use it to push the buttons on the right side of the machine. Left side changes color.

no idea what die is about or strange machine
ok, if you choose the toothpick from the swiss army knife, you can press the right buttons on strange machine to get colors on left side
Button colors are:
Red Yellow Green
Blue Cyan Violet

Duh! Colors of the sides of the die...
use die colors to open strange machine for an axe
don't know where to use the axe...

There must be a view we're missing...
Probably...I finally found the clue for the safe in the back of the L-5 seat (directed there by shining the flashlight on the "Luck" sheet) and using the Swiss Army knife on it (knife option).
If I missed that, I could be missing something else.
Just found a playing card inside L-2 by using the knife feature.
The card was for the safe, it seems.
Lol, i just discovered the clue for the safe. The red L that shows when you put the flashlight on the note means to cut the back of the L chair for a card. Little late of course!
Where to use the axe...

I tried just to play it, but for me it is a game with fun factor ZERO :( So i quit.

Walkthrough:
Go left and get the key.
Go to back of bus and click on the key pad= code is: 2759.
Use key in door on left. Pick up the flashlight.
Go to front of bus and go in compartment on floor for Swiss Army Knife.
Go to back of bus and click on shelf things to view very back.
Click on the box thing in back of bus- to the left.
Use toothpick option on Army Knife (to do this click on magnifying glass and click until you get last option).
The code for this box is: Yellow, Dark Blue, Green, Cyan, Red, Purple.
The buttons to press are: Top Middle, Bottom Left, Top Right, Bottom Middle, Top Left then Bottom Right.
Get the axe.
Go to front of bus.
Find the seat with T-8 on it (seat on right, second from front).
There is an option to change view to the right.
Break glass with axe.
AND FREEEEEEE!!!
