this language is heavy
totally stuck and only just started playing
Level 1 -- two fires (火)= "flame" 炎
But no idea on level 2 (tree + ?traffic light)-- not in my elementary kanji book
tree alone is 木, if that helps
Wait a minute...I notice that the "light" left of the yellow one is blue ( = cold?) and the one right of it is red ( = heat?)

Recommended: Basic kanji or Chinese knowledge, else not advised to attempt. Search the internet for a kanji recognition thingy, will be helpful in getting the answer.

Regarding the last level, supposingly we need to take away something from the current answer, so there might be a different answer but can't find it at the moment.

But please give me a more in-depth explanation about this traffic light thing...
I thought at first that we had to input the kanji for "watch out!" or "caution!", because that's what the traffic light denotes.
But your character translates to "horizontal", if I'm not wrong??
It would probably be much more fun if I understood Japanese...
@arbeitlooser: You're right, the traffic light in the game is denoting that message. But it's very difficult to convey that message in just one kanji so we have to look at the hint from a different angle. Maybe it's my cultural background, but being born as a Chinese, the first impression I get when looking at the lights is "Ah, a yellow light."
By the way, the main idea of this escape is to play around with the kanjis to form new kanjis, so the answer doesn't need to have any relation to the clues. Pretty much like "Spray - ray + lash = Splash".
And an update to the last level. I gave it another thought, and noticed the correct meaning of the subtraction (I think). So the answer I gave would be correct, and it's the only answer.
