Finally got it. You have to turn the fields with letters in them green. Got gold key.

I love how as a community we create our own as we go walk through guide. It's my favorite thing about room escape fans. :D
fed up: you can turn the music off, but keep the sounds of the game - see the speaker symbols at the bottom and fool around with them to get whatever sounds you want!! Thanks to Selfdefiant, he has listened to us over the years and provided almost everything we've asked for. That's why we like playing his games so much!!!

rybka - do you mean the purple gem? If so, you need to go to S and use a hammer. The hammer was it the topmost room on a chair, I think.

Sandra Dixon - you go to a hallway that has a red door, which actually ends up looking like a drawer when you click on it. There's a lighter there. I don't remember which room it is. You will actually light two fireplaces, so I don't know which one you are at.
I expect all questions have been answered in the above posts - if you want to find if your one is there, press Ctrl f - a 'find' box will appear at the bottom left of your screen. Type in your key word, eg red, and you'll find that word highlighted in the comments. Use the up or down arrows to find the next occurrence. That way you don't have to read every single post for what you want, although they are entertaining!
I mean the arrows next to the 'find' box.
nateb: in room P you click on the wall to the left of the big mirror - downward towards where the wallpaper meets the wood. It opens a panel, where you have to solve a puzzle to get the gold kay. According to the hint, make the black squares black, the white squares white and where there is a green letter, leave the green square green.

Sandra, the dials puzzle clue is on the map. Look at the directions (NSEW). The fire you light with a lighter, can't remember where it was. If you read the hints above it will be there.
