Totally stuck...got the red 8 but that's it!

A long game. In the beginning, a blue circle did not immediately appear. Then it's like clockwork)
Did not understand what followed the blue circle. I clicked on the red ones, walked away .. did not overplay. And then suddenly the blue circle appeared.
Just started now. I've clicked on everything. Nothing relates to anything else. There's a red and blue 84 and no other clues. Lots of puzzles with no clues. Looking for a sneaky key or anything else...no found. How does one even start this game?

Thanks AO. I did that in s1, and nothing happened. Was the 4 supposed to come up afterwards blue, and then was I supposed to do the same thing only 4x? If so, no go. Nothing new or strange showed up either in s1 or s2. ?

I've left s1 several times and come back as Nafanja did, but still no blue circle.

for me it worked (in s1)
adjusted 8, red button appeared, clicked it 8x, blue pad was clickable then, adjusted number 4, blue button appeared, clicked it 4x
button columns already at pos.1
(had to adjust them once again, until hint worked...)
Sugar, try to click 9 times on red button, this worked for me...
If I remember correctly the red button didn't work for me at first when I pressed it 8 times, but it did when I went away, came back and tried again.
