ReplyDeleteI read somewhere, long time ago, that if you're ever stuck in a maze (or labyrinth), the trick to getting out is just to always turn right, whenever you can. If you can't go right, then go straight. If you can't go right or straight, then go left. Following that logic, I got out of both mazes very quickly. So, at least within the context of this specific game, the theory worked :)

That's called a "Wall Following Algorithm" and works on fixed mazes that have both the entrance and the exit on the outside edges.
ReplyDeleteMazes that have shifting walls (of course), or have the entrance and/or exit inside the maze, can be designed to foil that algorithm.

i have a very poor sense of orientation so i draw the maze on a piece paper, and obviously, i made it! haha!
ReplyDeleteThe idea is that you keep your left hand on the wall, and that way you will always get to the exit. It's not necessarily the fastest way as you go all the way around dead ends essentially, but you will always get to an exit, and you won't double back.
ReplyDeleteBut it only works if both the entrance and exit are on the outside wall. There is another way to do ones where it's in the middle I think... and there are others that don't have quick solutions.

ReplyDeleteIn both mazes, for best results follow the *right* wall. (Left will have you finding the gate first, then the key, and then you have to either backtrack to the gate or keep going forward until you loop around back to the gate.)
