did any one else notice you can reuse the key on the locked box and it does nothing(?) in the dark room, and there are two rolling pin things, but only one shows up?

alice, when you go in the dark room, go left, then down, it will show the back of a house and a open door, on the bottom right corner (so hards to see), click there and you will find the code box

the numbers you need for the code will appear in the caption when you click on the scroll that is lighted in the main room
The note you have in your inventory says something like "1926, 25th of December: The beginning year of the reign of XXX. (I don't know the names of the emperors, so I can't read that part).
use 1925 as the base then add the first number you get to it. Follow it with the other two numbers.
There is some itty bitty writing near the red square on the scroll. Click there and get the numbers that show up in the caption.

lady d, did you find the little wooden piece inthe 'japanese house'?
you can take the piece of metal off of it (using screwdriver) and then you use this piece of metal on the tatami, under the tv looking frame

Hey I'm at the second code.
nuno, when get the lighter out of the box (the one with code), light the candles (be sure to open lighter first and click on round wheel). Place candles on white round things in front of little 'house' in closet. It took me several tries to get them to stay. Then click around wood piece inside until you see the back. unscrew and take

I got it, it's got a white half and a dark brown half...I've tried to use the screwdriver on it to no avail...what the hell am I doing wrong??

I somehow did something with the second code that made the tall thing in the closet collapse. I THINK I had the second, third and fourth one clicked (green) and then was clicking through the white ones when it happened. Wish I could offer more. (counting the first as the top left)
DUH!! Didn't "click" the screwdriver all the way together!!! ty
2nd candle : under little house, click one of the squares
click on the rod thing and change the direction.. you will see a place for the screw driver.
when you go back into the closet and click around the collapsed 'thing' there is a staircase going down and you're out.

The only possible hint that I see is the writing on the side of the shrine. Which reads, more or less:

But I don't even know if this refers to the squares under the floor.

I did what Lady D said for the second code and it worked. Had second, third and fourth pressed (green), then I pressed the fifth twice and sixth and that thing collapsed. Hope this helps.

Make 2, 3 and 4 green, click 5 twice and 6 once. Cut scene shows falling tower...then steps below are available.
Ah, I found it. The game has an error, so if you go too far, you'll miss the clue. After you unscrew the metal piece on the wood block, you can open the wood block with the screwdriver, and you get a remote. You can use the remote while looking at the TV to bring up a diagram.

I think the code changes all the time, as when i restarted the dates on the calendar had changed.

Since the arrow is pointing down, you want to look at the cube from a top down view.

Blocks code was stupid. No sense. I pressed 1 2 6 7 8 , as vkacademy wrote & it worked. But my diagram showed 1 5 6 7 8 ... And for the number code I added 1925 (don't know where that came from) with 25 from the pic, and at the end of that number I put 2 and 1 (also from pic) -> 195021. I miss "Submachine" and "Covert front" :((

The scroll gives me numbers 48, 11 and 1 and the calendar sheet has numbers 1926, 25 and 12. I've tried at least 10 combinations and still don't get the code :(

Weird, the second code seemed to be much easier for me, although the escape was opened before I managed to add the whole code... But nevermind, finally out :D

after you solved the TV cube puzzle, go back to the dark room and check the leg of the 'gate' opposite to the lit-candles. there's a key-hole and use the golden key. choose the first button (3 japanese characters on it), and then the gate will fall and reveals the secret exit.
and you are out
FULL WALKTHROUGH!
-click on scroll to turn on light.
-zoom in on scroll.
to the left of the red seal, click on the writing.
Subtitles will show Japanese characters along with three sets of numbers.
Write these numbers down.
They are different in every game.
So, say mine are 25 - 4 - 14
-click on bottom right corner of the scroll and you'll zoom in again.
click on the hollow part.
it's a elongating POLE.
-click on sliding closet to find a FLATHEAD DRIVER (-)/ SCREWDRIVER (x).
-double click on the scroll pole to examine. click on the tip of the brown edge to reveal a slit.
use the flathead driver on it so that it gets longer.
-find the corner with the shrine.
use the elongated pole to reach the GOLD ITEM.
-while still examining this item,
click on the right corners of it to reveal the back.
-turn your flathead driver (-) into a screwdriver (X).
to convert the tool, click on the green handle where the metal meets the green. the handle will come off then click on the tip of the metal. close the handle by click on the same spot of the green handle
-examine the gold item again and unscrew the back to reveal KEY.
-click on key and open the locked to the right.
-enter the dark room.
-click on the shrine house on the left.
there is a black and gray grid below it.
zoom into it and click on the second to bottom middle black square to find CANDLE.
-go to the right and click beyond the shrine house.
-find CANDLE on the bottom corner behind the shrinehouse.
-click beyond the shrinehouse again to zoom in behind it.
-on the bottom right corner of the screen, click on the square to reveal a safe.
-use the numbers found on the scroll: mine were 25 - 4 - 14, but yours will be different.

while still examining the lighter, click on the cap to open it.
then click on the wheel to light it.

-open shrinehouse to find BOX.
-click behind the box to find a screw.
-unscrew it to take it off.
-while examining the box, click on the hinge to reveal the back.
unscrew last two screws. to separate the two items.
-go back to the first room to where the TV is.
-click on the tatami mat under the TV.
-place the hinge in between the two tatami mats.
-click on the wooden box and then click on the tatami mat to the right on the hinge to uncover another grid.
-zoom out to the TV.
-turn screwdriver back into a flathead.
-examine the wooden box and use the flathead to pry off the top to reveal a REMOTE.
-the TV will show a 3D cube.
this is the code for the grid under the tatatmi mat.
The arrow will direct you to which layer is first.
the first layer to you is what you press first.
the second layer is what you press second.
the third layer is what you press last.

click on the left scene of the shrine where the red gate/scaffolding is.
-click on the bottom right peg where the black is to find a keyhole.

The 'gate' will knock over the shrine house to reveal stairs.
-go down the stairs to escape!

Hmmmm, nice and hard. The characters at the end reminded me of old anime. I guess it means "To be Continued". coz they always show at the end of the episodes.

hey, i don´t know if somebody realyzed that the lights, where we found the candle have the shape of a swastika? i think, that´s very bitter!
actually, thats not a swastika. hitler took that symbol from the chinese (which means peace) and turned it upside down and inverted it. so he meant to make the swastika a symbol of hate which is an inverted peace sign. thats what my professor have told me anyways, i could be somewhat incorrect.
