Actually they are turkish characters adapted by Greeks later. I am greek filaraki.

Well I wasn't there :P but I confirmed what I knew at Wikipedia just to be more certain before saying so. But I think just the names were adapted, their characters are different.

@levent, they are also greek folk characters... but both countries have many things in common as far as folk colture is concerned.

where's the red guy right leg?
Hacivat and karagöz are Turkish. karagöz means black eye. They are not greek. Greek people steal turkish culture. They do not know how to make yufka but they also say baklava is greek. Yufka is Turkish. Baklava and börek are made of yufka and yufka is only made by Turkish peole all over the world.
