Thanks for the WT @Rambler. Excellent one! Not to blame you but I did exactly like the WT told and still can't get out. I must have missed a step somewhere.

Yep... I missed the "click on the yellow shirted man with the text note selected, then with the picture selected", got to another location. Still clicking madly.

And out! The grey cat looked a bit guilty at the end.

That "grey cat" is Det. Max! =)

Hmm. Can I solve the mystery when I don't know the crime, can't read the clues, can't understand what the witnesses are telling me?

Have the (train ticket?), the picture, the green note, and the letter (opened). Inventory is full.

Have gone to 6 locations -- the bartender was particularly helpful -- and clicked on everyone with each item highlighted and ... nada!

Wait! Rambler said click on EVERYTHING! Go back, and I can go upstairs if I click the right door!

Mystery solved!

(But was it truancy? an affair? a kidnapping?...)

well, not being able to read anything made this game seem really random.
