So, the answer should be (58 x 1 x 3) +3 = 177 or 58 x 1 x (3+3) = 348
Neither of these numbers works. The rest of the game was very easy, this part just doesn't make sense.
LOL Why do you have 2 X's? Only six numbers\math symbols and only 6 arrows pointing the way...

You dont have to follow a shape it is a corners puzzle
according my arrows the equation would be 81x3+5, but Leroys solution is right... I went through the arrows several times, I don't get why it has to be 81x5+3...

Hm, I didn't like the solution for the middle lid (key 2). If there would have been a circle or a dot or something to indicate that it starts in the centre, it would have been better.

LOL Escapism giveaway for key 2 was no up or down arrows...
Think of the arrows as a clock hand or compass pointer. First it's pointing to the left (the 8), then it spins around to point lower right (the 1), etc.

The first line goes from the right to the left, i.e. from the 5 to the 8, so the first number must be 58.
ROFL....oh good grief! I just love it when I over-analyze, draw detailed sketches and waste time escaping a room that would be obvious to the palm tree growing outside my door...in fact it would have been a faster exit from the room if I had just opened the window and climbed down :P hahhahahaahahaha!!!!!!
This is what happens when I spend the majority of the night escaping because, after all, why bother with sleep when I can scramble all logical thought after 0300 @.@
That was ... crap.
The arrow puzzle spoilt it all for me. It was to godawfully ILLOGICAL. Who could claim that you didn't have to use a number twice for a change?
But that there was a difference between a very diagonal arrow and a diagonal arrow was news for me.
As if there were a turn signal in your car for "right" and for "half right" too ;)
pdgph, you're looking at the wrong clue for the numbers puzzle... zoom in on the red picture frame. Arrows point W, SE, NW, E, SW, NE... there are no numbers at due N or due S.
From the center due W is 8
SE is 1
NW is x
E is 5
SW is +
NE is 3

Quickie -- these used to be real mind-benders!
I tried to use the arrows on the top safe first. LOL
(But then I knew there was nothing in the middle, so when I opened the top safe, I knew how to match the arrows with the numbers and operators!)
