Anyone here? Have Purple, green, and brown puzzle piece, only brown goes in puzzle, now completely stuck...

trying to solve the math, but 10 or more is not possible
Stuck on the math. If you enter the numbers from the right of the door, and then plug 1 in as the 5th number, it works. But nothing. Meaning, there are so many numbers that could work to equal 11......

Stuck as well with math....i got 11 several times, but nothing.
Tried Google by plugging (a,b,c,d,e) in for the blanks, but Google has failed me.

Tried counting the books based on the colors the numbers cover (8,4,8,4), but nothing as well.....
The books have to mean something though o_O

Anyone have any clue at all? Any other key or clue in game? I'm about to give up and leave this one to the math majors...
Zazie, if you plug them in (5,9,3,1) and divide by 1, it equals 11 but it didn't do anything for me. I also tried counting the books based on the colors those numbers covered, but still nothing.

No problem Zazie! I'm just glad I finally figured it out. I typed all 1's in my calculator and it came out to equal 1, so that's why I tried 11. Such a simple yet very difficult answer, as they say sometimes the hardest answers are the simplest!
