Log thing with slide on left tide - just move to right side for key

I"m stuck..nothing in inventory but a clue from the two gems and a diamond..Not getting it's meaning

It's for the 5-letter word in scene to right, Sharon. Combine with number clue on books in first scene.

In scene via 3-number puzzle, red-blue clue is for pumps/pistons in scene 1.

Me, Me raising my hand....LOL collected all the knobs still need the clue for them. This was a bit harder than I thought. Nice job, Out first Austen!

Knobs hint comes on paper from behind grid. Think it was S-E-W-N
