Room 2 has clue showing what to click on in room 7 to get outlines to appear.
To get items to appear, click on empty item outlines, do not collect or place items until all outlines have been clicked. I didn't click through all the outlines first and was not able to complete game. Had to watch walkthrough. Frustrating.
Went back and removed all items, several rooms at a time, clicked through outlines again and replaced items, got more inventory items.
Completed game. Best method is to click all outlines first, then collect items and place.
Like Maximom said, if you're missing one of a kind of piece, just remove every one of that kind and click all the blank spaces. Go back to room 1 and the new pieces will start to appear.
