ReplyDeleteThe first example is:
2 + 20 + 15 = 37
30 + 3 + 4 = 37
So the rows have to add up to the same number.
Now add the columns and add that as a row too.
And you get:
2 + 20 + 15 = 37
30 + 3 + 4 = 37
---------------- +
32 + 23 + 19 = 74
So not only the bottom row is 74, but 37 + 37 is 74 too.
Same method goes for the second example
3 + 21 + 14 = 38
28 + 4 + 6 = 38
---------------+
31 + 25 + 20 = 76
So for the big grid you know the rows have to add up to 26 (the first row gives that away) and you know the 3 added columns together have to add up to 78 (26+26+26)
So it is;
1 + 15 + 10 = 26
12 + 6 + 8 = 26
20 + 4 + 2 = 26
---------------- +
33 + 25 + 20 = 78

ST was very close to explain the grid puzzle, but the correct way to solve it, is adding rows you get X, and multiplying columns you get Y.

33 + 25 + 20 = 78
as your post, doesnt work.
Correct solution is:
1 + 15 + 10
12 + 8 + 6
20 + 2 + 4
you get 25 adding up rows
and 240 multiplying columns.
Sorry. you get 26 adding rows.

ReplyDeleteI messed up with the 8/6 and the 2/4. But if you swap them it still works with my method. As 8+2=10 just like 6+4 is 10.
But indeed then there would be two solutions and only one worked.

The ????? on the left has to be the same as on the ????? on the right.
So make it;
3(100000 + x) = 10x + 1 and that's
300000 +3x = 10x + 1 and that's
299999 +3x = 10x and that's
299999 = 7x
So to get the x do 299999 / 7 = ????
