Small Challenge

SmallTool - Small Challenge is another challenging brain teaser riddle based puzzle game created by Small Tool and for EscapeGames24. It's 30 levels and starts (I hope) very easy and is slowly getting harder. There will be no fancy riddle stuff to do, I mean; no info with hidden text, or in the source, or in the exif and/or picture properties; No picture manipulation; No audio manipulation, etc, etc. Everything you need will be there in plain sight on the level. Only on 2 or 3 levels you have to Google a little bit. Good luck and have fun! [Created and Subbed by Small-Tool]

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm with rds665. I'm guessing it has to do with being born / birth year, but nothing's working.

    ReplyDelete
  8. T'Lai,

  11. PurpleLogic,

    ReplyDelete
  12. Aha! Double triple layers...

    ReplyDelete
  13. LEVEL 26

    ReplyDelete
  15. any further hints on 25? i got the dod and the ages, but those numbers dont make a word nor do those work as answer. what am i missing?

    ReplyDelete
  16. @rds665 I don't think it relates to dod, just a guess...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I need another hint for 25 too

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  19. For 25, Once you get the right number, think of the word "die" in a different way and use the title again

    ReplyDelete
  20. LEVEL 25
use a second DIE (roll 'em)
Find opposite of birth year on it
    Convert

    ReplyDelete
  21. @PurpleLogic, did you get anywhere with those 2 words on 26?

    ReplyDelete
  22. @laura..nope, still stuck with 2 words...Did you find same words?

    ReplyDelete
  23. yes, found same words... is total number of books significant?

    ReplyDelete
  24. After struggling for so long with lvl 25, I did 26 straight away. Again, what does the title tell you to do.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes, Laura there is a significant number of books

    ReplyDelete
  26. Not sure if total number of books is needed, but interesting that it is 2x alphabet length

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was thinking maybe days of the week but E doesn't work...

    ReplyDelete
  28. yes... also number of weeks in a year...

    ReplyDelete
  29. yes purple that is interesting

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL there is a blog with that name (the two words)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Remember S-T's first piece of advice guys........ don't overthink!

    ReplyDelete
  32. LEVEL 26
    Each Bookcase contains 26 Books
There are a few differences between the bookcases that gives us two four letter words
The 2 words together make no sense to me...YET
    STUCK

    ReplyDelete
  33. @PurpleLogic, you were on the right track, I wasn't...

    ReplyDelete
  34. On what places in the "26 books" are the differences?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @PurpleLogic... apply the title

    ReplyDelete
  36. but what is the difference between the two

    ReplyDelete
  37. Using the alphabet and different book placement got a third 4-letter word
I KNOW less now what CODE to use and am in a STEW

    ReplyDelete
  38. @PurpleLogic, LOL, same here!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Echoing mtatt100... what's the difference between CODE & STEW?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have to go ........ Boo Hoo!! The end is in sight.... keep trucking guys and hopefully you'll finish before I get back - good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have been trying to do the maths on Code and Stew but do not get a usable word.
    SPOILER

    ReplyDelete
  44. Redo the last letter laura

    ReplyDelete
  45. laura, recheck the last

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not getting anywhere on 28

    ReplyDelete
  47. Why didn't anybody try know as answer?

    ReplyDelete
  48. oops, thanks! close enough I should maybe remove that comment...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Donas,
Again the title has the hint. And again no anagram.

    ReplyDelete
  50. TY for the egg Small Tool

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lol I'm glad somebody found the rotten egg, PurpleLogic. It seems like everybody just went straight to level 27. And I did put the text there about how many books to get the egg.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Clue for 7 please - get the principle, but am I looking for a word - or just letters - and how many? made it this far on my own but totally stuck here
    btw - I like your style s-t!

    ReplyDelete
  53. 27 looks like it should be easy but I guess my brain is fried... is it compass directions?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Laura, it is directions, but WHERE to start

    ReplyDelete
  55. Laura,
Where is the big head looking at?
It's not clock or compass or something like that.

    LNS,
Write out the numbers and count.

    ReplyDelete
  56. LEVEL 27
Are we supposed to draw something?
If so I get either an old fashioned camera extension or a Mason symbol which are both wrong no doubt

    ReplyDelete
  57. PurpleLogic,
Don't draw, but indeed, use something in real life.
You're using it all the time right now.
Where is the big head looking at?

    ReplyDelete
  58. counted - retranslated - ended up sort of dejected?
    am i close?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Count the written out numbers again LNS.
77 is 12 letters so that should be an L.

    ReplyDelete
  60. oops - i'm only on 6 - getting ahead of myself!

    ReplyDelete
  61. still stuck on 27.... starting in middle... do I use S, NW etc? D, UR or UL or TR? too many options and it's probably something totally different...

    ReplyDelete
  62. LNS,
    The left picture is?
    And the right picture is?
Then read what you have and use and as +

    ReplyDelete
  63. start with something on the page Laura then apply

    ReplyDelete
  64. Laura,
You have to use a word with the same amount of letters as the amount of little heads.
Well, not many words on that level, right?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Laura, WHERE are you starting when you look in the direction shown

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh for goodness sake! and you did say - don't overthink!!! ty for your pacience and darn it - I am hooked!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Keep "don't overthink" in mind. It really goes for almost all the levels :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. thanks for hints all, guess I'm just slow at this stuff! looking down, south, starting at the top, the north? line up heads with title word?? I'm sure it'll seem obvious when I get it!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Laura,
What letter is south-east from the W ?

    ReplyDelete
  70. The only letters I see South of the word Where is Answer for the answer box....Are there words on the page I am not seeing???

    ReplyDelete
  71. @PurpleLogic, glad I'm not the only one stuck here!!! I think each head represents a letter in Where but it's not helping me...

    ReplyDelete
  72. PurpleLogic,
Every letter has his own direction.
First little head is looking south east.
South east from the W is D.

    ReplyDelete
  73. feeling dumber and dumber... why is D southeast from W???

    ReplyDelete
  74. I see the directions of (left to right) SE, NE S, NW and SW
I DO NOT SEE ANY LETTERS YOU SPEAK OF
I must be going really blind in my dotage here LOL
What word does the D come from? The only D I see on the entire page is in the ST Jon Productions Logo which is NE of the word "where"

    ReplyDelete
  75. The only real word on the level is WHERE.
So use that word on your keyboard with the directions.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I got a half hours reprieve - YEAH!! Came back to see how you guys were doing and managed to use the 'help' comments to solve 27 ........... I'm not sure what hint to add which won't give it totally away... working on it :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Laura,
    Look at your keyboard.
The A is South west from the W, the S is South, and the D (the letter you need) is South east.

    ReplyDelete
  78. OY VEY, the old keyboard trick LOL LOL

    ReplyDelete
  79. OK.....S-T did if for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. oh the keyboard!! thanks for megahints!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Lol, that's why the big head was there. It is looking down.

    ReplyDelete
  82. OH! I thought big head was just telling us to start with middle head... overthinking again!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yep Laura!!! We keep on doing that don't we? 27 levels and we still haven't learned LOL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Although I do think lvl25 was in a category all of it's own - it needed some thinking about.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Lol, You ain't seen nothing yet. Level 30 is a killer :p

    ReplyDelete
  86. 25 was great... I think I may be dead before I reach 30 anyhow... okay, 28, trying not to overthink, trying!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Well, I'm back to yet again staring at a screen and not knowing what I'm looking at - arrghhhhhhhhh!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. trying not to overthink gives me BCKHJCB KG etc... sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  89. LEVEL 28
So a previous hint says the title is the hint and no anagram
If I remove all the duplicated letters i am left with three letters, the name of a well known pen maker from USA...Not the answer
    So Stuck once more!!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Level 28.
The title tells you exactly what to do.
The answer is 3 words exactly the same length as the gibberish.

    ReplyDelete
  91. @s-t.. do you mean each word is the same length too, so that the JG would turn into a word. Is that a good place to start?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yep JG is a two letter word.
But I think it's easier to just start at the beginning.
    And the same, means?

    ReplyDelete
  93. The dreaded level 30 at last!

    ReplyDelete
  94. @Donas, wow, you're a trailblazer!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Now I really do have to leave..........sorry I can't stay, hope to meet up with you all again. I know you'll be done when I get back with enough hints to hopefully get to the finish line This has been an amazing ride..........:)

Well done Donas for getting to the final hurdle first!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. WOOT Donas, simply amazed at your patience and creativity, not to mention your brain

    ReplyDelete
  97. I give
    What does the Same mean?
Do we use the same method here as with the previous level?

    ReplyDelete
  98. And the same means; + the same
And the next means; + the next
    Think alphabet!

    ReplyDelete
  99. meanwhile back at the ranch...

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well that cleared up everything! LOL
More confused now than every LOL

    ReplyDelete
  101. So with that rule, what can you do with the first letter?

    ReplyDelete
  102. So applying "+ the same" to the B it becomes a D? or V?

    ReplyDelete
  103. thought I followed but got DETORED SN INUDSHOF so I guess not, or I'm too tired to count...

    ReplyDelete
  104. Laura,
You started ok, but miscounted on some letters.
For example the 3rd and the 5th.
And start again when you start with a new word.

    ReplyDelete
  105. guess I'm just counting wrong, now first word makes sense...

    ReplyDelete
  106. ah, start again with each word..

    ReplyDelete
  107. wait a minute, didn't granmaa die way back at the beginning??

    ReplyDelete
  108. Lol Laura,
You have at least two couples of grandparents.

    ReplyDelete
  109. but didn't nana die too? or maybe it was just one of them...

little hint may not be enough on chess ... B is bishop? K is knight? R is rook? N.. pawn? not even sure if it's horizontal or vertical? or maybe none of this matters?

    ReplyDelete
  110. CHESS? I can play a little, but the hint confuses me more
    what does B-K, R-K, B-K, N mean?

    ReplyDelete
  111. B is Bishop
    R is Rook
    K is King
    N is Knight

    ReplyDelete
  112. oh, I felt sure that bishop would take that knight! Not sure what B-K means either.. bishop moves into position to check king?

    ReplyDelete
  113. If the white Bishop takes the black Knight, black will win. The black rook will take the pawn etc.
So think of moves that will force black to do other moves.

    ReplyDelete
  114. you said it laura think how to win

    ReplyDelete
  115. So we play a game of chess and we know the outcome. Not getting a clue here at all..Gosh i am feeling dumber by each level

    ReplyDelete
  116. Don't feel dumber PurpleLogic. You're doing great :) In the end the levels are getting harder.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Sorry i do not get it at all. What needs to be anagrammed? Do we draw the moves and they form letters? Sorry to be so dense

    ReplyDelete
  118. does hint give white and black moves? if white bishop checks king, I don't see how next move can be for black rook to check king (taking pawn).. maybe it's just white moves, and black moves knight to pawn..

    ReplyDelete
  119. 4 moves from white (and 3 from black) and the 4th white move is checkmate.
You need the 7 fields the pieces land on.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I read it as white moves only
I forced a checkmate Now What?
Easy to checkmate when other player can't move much

    ReplyDelete
  121. Are the fields numbered or lettered? I never played competitively only with friends. I do not know competitive rules

    ReplyDelete
  122. The fields on chess are named with letters and numbers. For example; bottom left is field A1.

    ReplyDelete
  123. So letters across left to right and numbers are bottom to top?

    ReplyDelete
  124. have to bail soon, good luck @PurpleLogic! almost there! thanks for all the hints all... GREAT GAME

    ReplyDelete
  125. STUMPED
My chess fields do not seem to spell any words
    my moves were for white:
    D5, F1, D7, E6
    For Black
    F8, E8, D8

Have I become more dense than usual?

    ReplyDelete
  126. D7 is wrong. Give check on another field.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I mean when you do Bishop to D7 the black King would simply take the white Bishop and besides that; The Bishop can't go from D5 to D7.

    ReplyDelete
  128. OOPS shoulda been D8 for the check

    ReplyDelete
  129. Ok then, this is where I get off.
Sorry this chess is too much for me
I really enjoyed your riddle Small tool. It was really creative, frustrating and fun

    ReplyDelete
  130. On 30, mijn haar is bijna weg!!!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Your third move with white is a Bishop move, but not to a D field.

    ReplyDelete
  132. You're almost there PurpleLogic, only one move different.

    ReplyDelete
  133. @Donas, don't speak that language... your hair is turning white? it's really hard? you're almost there?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Laura, My hair is almost gone!!! Level 30 will make you pull it out!

    ReplyDelete
  135. no worries, mine is almost all gone already :-) May not make it to 30...

    ReplyDelete
  136. assuming I ever figure out chess moves, what do I anagram... does D5 become DE? Or is it more complicated?

    ReplyDelete
  137. Laura,
    Granmaa is playing against Caesar.
So what would you do with D5 ?
Remember the level with Italy and Germany.

    ReplyDelete
  138. convert to roman numerals?? D5 becomes DV?

    ReplyDelete
  139. Nope, besides Roman numerals that level was about Rot.

    ReplyDelete
  140. sorry to need so much hand-holding here :-/ Not sure I even have all chess moves (e4 to replace Purples' D7?) but then do I just paste all the numbers and letters into ROT converter? (ROT18 says does numbers and letters)... So eager to join Donas in losing all my hair on 30!

    ReplyDelete
  141. The D7 should be C6
    For example C + 6 is ?

    ReplyDelete
  142. well, thanks! got it, though didn't use ROT I'm pretty sure... just the adding clue...

    ReplyDelete
  143. and thanks @Purple for chess moves, was headed way wrong on that...

30 looks mighty fun! at least the old guy has some hair, even if grey...

    ReplyDelete
  144. Ah great Laura, congrats.
Now on level 30 Every title of every part is a very, very important hint!!!
And it's a lot of work. If you translate complete sentences you won't get anywhere. You have to do it word by word and to be sure translate it both ways.
Good luck (it took my beta-tester just as long to solve level 30 as it took him to solve the other 29 levels together).

    ReplyDelete
  145. and confused right off the bat ... looks like English to me?!

    ReplyDelete
  146. thanks @Small-tool!! Thanks for great game and also for being here for so much help!!! Given your tester warning, I think I'll save this level for after the kids are in bed :-) Have fun all!

    ReplyDelete
  147. It's English for sure.
But a lot of words are Dutch as well or almost Dutch.

    ReplyDelete
  148. WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you small-tool for the excellent game !!!!
Great job !!! and no ciphers (many) just thinking !!!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Finished at last! Thanks for an excellent riddle and all you help! Loved the poem Clio and Yoli!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Wow, great job Donas :)
    Congrats!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  151. Possibly everyone is gone, but if not, help! Still don't get 26! Please?

    ReplyDelete
  152. what is different between what you have found

    ReplyDelete
  153. Difference is the keyword on level 26.
First find the differences and then use the word difference in a maths/alpabetical way.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Tlai, have you noniced the different letters ?

    ReplyDelete
  155. I'm getting 'codstw' and the only conversion thing I'm coming up with gives me 'caedaitw' which is clearly not the answer. Still missing something obvious...

    ReplyDelete
  156. T'Lai,
The answer is a 4 letter word.
Do the 'alphabet' maths with the 2 words you get from the books.

    ReplyDelete
  157. 'codstw' being what I'm left with when I take away the 'e' which is common between 'code' and 'stew'

    ReplyDelete
  158. Thanks S-T. I was really doing the wrong difference. :P

    ReplyDelete
  159. Finally on level 30! Let's see how it goes...

    ReplyDelete
  160. Go T'Lai!!! Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  161. Not getting it. Google translate is telling me that all the words translated from Dutch to English are exactly the same.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Translate both ways (from Dutch to English and from English to Dutch), but also look at the bottom right in Google Translate; If it's a real word it gives all kind of extra info. If it isn't a real word it just gives the same word, because it can't translate, so then it isn't a translation.

    ReplyDelete
  163. As a check, does this mean that 'made' should be 'maggot'?

    ReplyDelete
  164. Focus on the title, that's important for every part.
So, on the first part; Start is Start. So A Dutch word that means exactly the same and is spelled exactly the same.
And on that first part also notice how many words the sentence is.
For example; Help is the same word in English and Dutch.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I'm on lvl 30 now. I'm not much of a chess player so many thanks to PurpleLogic for the moves - that would have taken me a very long time to come up with on my own. Congrats to all who have completed all levels if you're still here.

    I'm plodding along with translating.......

    ReplyDelete
  166. I've got one 4 letter word for the first part, two 4 letter words for the third part, and I think I understand the title for the second part, but I have no idea how to apply it.

    ReplyDelete
  167. The first part should give you a 4 letter word.
The second part a 2 letter word
And the third part a 4 letter word.

For the second part it's exactly the same spelling, but completely different meaning.
And the second part is in a grid for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I figured there was a reason for the grid, but it's not the right size for a chess board (unless I'm just crazy), so I'm still thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Im guessing everyone found level 24 easy. Not me. I've been looking at it for over 30 mins...and the title ISNT helping me.

    ReplyDelete
  170. No chess board at all.
With the correct words you'll find the shapes of two letters.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Level 24.
Read the title (1+1=1) as first + first is first (letter) etc.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Gotta go again. Hopefully I'll be able to finish when I get back in a few hours. :)

    ReplyDelete
  173. Sorry, but i still dont understand what you mean.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Clio,
First letter one word + first letter other word is first letter answer.
    Think alphabet.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I think I have to give up on lvl30 for now....... I am just not getting it. I've translated all the words both ways. I don't see how the few that are the same in both languages fit anything - I have 3 in the lst section not just one. I've read all the hints over and am still stumped. :(

Great finish to a fantabulous riddle Small-tool!!

    ReplyDelete
  176. Clio...It is a 4 letter answer. if a=1 then take the first letter (number) of each word and add them together to get a new letter. then take the second letter form the first word and the second letter from the second word. <3

    ReplyDelete
  177. OH !!..... How stupid am I? (dont answer. That was a rhetorical question!!)..lol Thanks, small and yoli.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Cee Bee,
Don't give up, you're so close now :)
Four words in the first part are spelled exactly the same and mean exactly the same.
Then look at how many words there are in the sentence and that's a hint. So pick four letters and you've got your first 4 letter word for the end-answer.
But.... Are you really done when you did level 30???

  179. Back, and I think I have four words the same from first part (if title is included?) But not seeing how to pick 4 letters... a letter from each word? or is it position of word in alphabet as 2 sentences together have 26 words? (but what about title one then)

  180. (some dutch words are very cool. like eenzaam, and smeekte.)

  181. Laura,
If you have four words, just look at what place they're on the alphabet to pick 4 letters. No anagram.

  182. 25 was excellent. Thanks small. That was really good fun...(every clever of you !!)

On to 26 now, and have got two words.

  183. Oh, I guess title doesn't count ... overlooked an important one in text!

  184. @T'Lai, even though you're gone, how did you do that so fast??? do you speak dutch? gonna try translating sentence by sentence... hoping knowing some german will help keep me on track...

  185. Don't translate sentence by sentence. Translate word by word. Sorry, a lot of work, but that's the only way to go.
And come to think of it, not sorry at all :P This is my revenge :)

  186. I didn't give up - wouldn't be able to sleep anyway :)..... I think I have the first two words, the third one is still eluding me

  187. My hair wasn't grey when I started this, but I think I've joined the old guy LOL!!

  188. For the third part of level 30;
    PEER is Dutch for PEAR.
    Notice the little difference!
Use that difference on the text.

  189. hmmmmmmm......... I already tried both of the words that had that same characteristic, even though I thought them wrong as I should be able to narrow it down to ONE word - thinking!! (Hopefully not OVER thinking LOL!!)
