ReplyDelete@Janet that worked thanks. Do you pick lemonade first because it's mentioned the most? Are there tricks to doing these? I treat them like Sudoku.
ReplyDelete@EnJoy if you have to guess you're doing something wrong. These puzzles are always a process of elimination. Sometimes you have to combine and many as 3 or 4 different clues to work out what goes where, but you should never have to guess.

ReplyDeleteRobin Rob - yes exactly. From the clues, you knew there was the lemonade then directly to the right the brown house/fish and then again to the right the Volvo. So with all the clues combined, the lemonade was the 1st house. (There may have been another clue but that was the sequence that I wrote down)
ReplyDelete@Robin Rob, to clarify what Janet was saying, here are how she worked the clues:
ReplyDeleteThere are two houses between the butterflies and the person drinking Lemonade.
So, from this clue we know that the lemonade could be in houses 1,2,4, or 5. We also know the butterflies could be in 1,2,4, or 5 since we don't know on which side on or the other go.
Her next clue was:
The person drinking lemonade lives DIRECTLY to the left of the brown house.
This clue eliminates house 5.
Her next clue was:
The person driving the Volvo lives DIRECTLY to the right of the brown house.
This clue eliminate 4, leaving only houses 1 or 2 for the location of the lemonade.
Her last clue was:
The fish live DIRECTLY to the right of the person drinking lemonade.
Since house 3 has Horses set when we start then it can't have fish. This means house 2 can't be the lemonade house, through process of elimination the lemonade MUST be in house 1.
