Math makes no sense to me.
ReplyDeleteNicole, it's from the puzzle TEA+TIME. The teacup says 0133, and the clock says 1020. Add them up, and the result is 1153 (for 4-digit number on cupboard in room with clock).
ReplyDeleteOh...sorry, you meant the math outside. If 2 diamonds = 20, then 1 diamond is 10. Which means in the next line, star = 0. If 2 circles + 0 = 20, that means circles also = 10. In the last line, just worry about the first circle and the last diamond, because the middle will equal 0. What you have left is 10 + 10, so the answer to the 3-digit number is 020.

What seemed to confuse the issue was that in the third line, the 2 circles were next to each other instead of separated by a +, like the diamonds were in the first line. :)
ReplyDeletereally don't like these sort of math puzzles they are using lately. Not intuitively logical or proper mathematically.
ReplyDeleteThe math IS correct, and it is completely logical. If you do not find it intuitive, it may be because you have forgotten/never learned either the order of operations or the many ways in which mathematical operations may be expressed.
