So, I played the game again, and you were right Dean. The 2 flower-like items that fit into the little wooden box, were not needed to complete the game. Placing them gives you nothing in return, so I left them in my inventory and was able to successfully escape the white hen. OK, I'll admit I am a little pedantic...
