@S-T PH is your friend
ReplyDeleteI am working on it.. Not sure if I have the letters correct though. I read on another board that you have to decode it twice.

ReplyDeleteOk... you gave clues "PH" so the second decoding starts with PH?
ReplyDeleteMy letters are above with the two "A" or is it two "O"
EnJoy,
ReplyDeleteI think PH is the site Purple Hell.
sorry PH = Purple Hell....look for riddle tools....then ROT, enter what you have, you will be given 26 options....
ReplyDeleteDoes the dancing man code mean nothing then if we are suppose to only look at the image name?
ReplyDeletewoo hoo got it!
ReplyDeletesmall-tool.. did you get it yet?
ReplyDeleteHi all! Just starting!
ReplyDeleteNope, I don't get how to ROT the image name. The name is 20 isn't it?

Thanks EnJoy, but I don't see letters in the dancing men, doesn't matter how I rotate them.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the tale The Adventure of the Lion's Mane? But what's the name in latin!?!?!
ReplyDeletelvl 1: the image shows Dr. Watson with curious hair, that of an animal.....find the story that refers to.....check the name of the image....find the animal in the story, then find what the image name is......that's your answer....no capitals or spaces in the answer box....
ReplyDeleteNini xD,
ReplyDeleteYep

YOu have to decode the symbols in purple hell
ReplyDeletehttp://www.purplehell.com/riddletools/danceman.htm

ReplyDeleteOh thx go it! Now for the solution...
ReplyDeleteNumbers? o.O
ReplyDeleteoh for the safe DOH!
ReplyDeleteNumbers aren't working for me
ReplyDeleteIn the story (The Adventure of the Copper Beeches) there's the expression : zero-point, but zero is not the answer
ReplyDeletejonthewatch help! :D
ReplyDeleteWell and she was offered a salary of 100 pounds,.. 100 which is the boiling point of water, converted that to Kelvin and don't know what to do. Also, they increased her salary to 120, but that doesnt work either
ReplyDeleteyou have all the clues....Kelvin, boiling point and you know the name of the sender of the letter...Violet Hunter...that will give you the story.....now find the answer ;)
ReplyDeleteIs Small-Tool still here? Maybe he could help
ReplyDeleteOMG EnJoy! I think u are in the right track.
ReplyDeleteIs the answer in numbers?
ReplyDeleteI'm still here.
ReplyDeleteThe boiling point of copper in Kelvin doesn't help either.
Hm.. there's a difference then of 20ºC which is 293 in Kelvin...
ReplyDeleteHm.. isn't beech a tree? Maybe the boiling point of wood in kelvins lol
ReplyDeleteI was hoping the answer was violet hunter...
ReplyDeleteI think Violet Hunter was just the hint to get us to the right story.
ReplyDeleteOMG... How can't the answer be 2840?!!?
ReplyDeleteGot it! The boiling point of Copper!
ReplyDeleteWiki Copper it is on the right hand side of the page!

ReplyDeleteI did it in paint and made cross lines from corner to opposite corner.
How come I only have one piece? It says Saffron Walden in the middle
ReplyDeleteEnJoy copy image url and change numbers to 2, 3 and so on
ReplyDeletelvl 6 now
ReplyDeletePlease don't tell me you are printing them all out?
ReplyDeleteEnJoy use paint lol! For more accuracy I made 1st a diamond in the picture then crossed it w/ lines :D
ReplyDeleteNo idea about 6.
ReplyDeleteThe title is not imperial conversation but imperial conversion. That's all I found.
I am on a Mac.. I don't think I have paint
ReplyDeleteI have FCRLTAU.. just by eyeballing it
ReplyDeleteOn lvl 6 I think it may be related to metric. Tried converting 6 chains to meters and got 120.7008. But no.
ReplyDeleteCTAU wrong
ReplyDeleteWe have 6 chains, 1 pole... All measures of length.
ReplyDeleteIn the source is something about span. The words in span are;
ReplyDeletetwo feet
leauge
link
a pole
six chains
yard
thou
And it's about unity.
Also 2 feet.
ReplyDeleteYeah s-t all about length
ReplyDeleteFor imperial measurements you need the MM and the answer is 11 digits long you have the right things to look up Wiki has it all ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat is MM ?
ReplyDeleteAnd do we use the metric system?
MM = milimeter
ReplyDeleteMM= millimeter you named the 7 things to look up
ReplyDeleteThou = 25400 micron
ReplyDeleteLink = 20,12 cm
Foot = 30,48 cm
Yard = 93,98 or 82,91 cm
Pole = 5,03 m
Chain = 20,12 m
League = 4,83 km
2 feet = 609.6
ReplyDeleteleague= 4828032
link= 201.168
a pole= 5029.2
six chains= 120700.8
yard= 914,4
thou= 0.0254
add those up
got 121615,2254 but It's wrong.
ReplyDeleteStarts with 49????????4
ReplyDeletenow got 4954877,5934 lol but no.
ReplyDeletethat is lots closer lol 49554871??4 and no comma's in the answer
ReplyDeletelol finally! lvl 7!
ReplyDeleteThanks Clee,

ReplyDeleteClue for 7
ReplyDeleteRot the jpg then you'll find that story faster

ReplyDeleteThanks Clee, but I already found the story.
ReplyDeleteNo idea how to proceed further.
Btw have to go to bed too, almost 3:am here.

ReplyDeleteNight sweet dreams
Ah thanks, of course the trick with another .jpg
ReplyDeleteWell, I think I know what I have to do on level 8, but that will be tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the help and see you tomorrow.
Level 9 has me stumped -- I can't think which name they want for the odd object. Hint: anachronism
ReplyDeleteBut I wouldn't have made it this far without all the extra clues above. Still don't understand where the letters to anagram came from in level 4 or what unit we converted everything to in level 6 (I thought it would be spans). Thanks all.
i can't find the answer to level 2 anyone can help me plz?
ReplyDeleteHi noa. Go to purple hell http://www.purplehell.com/riddletools/
ReplyDeleteScroll down to codes and ciphers and click on "dancing man" to decode the paper. Then go back to codes and ciphers and click on ROT (Caesars)and enter the letters you got and you'll find a 5 letter word.
Hint: a****
I found the story for 7 right away and on 2nd jpg thought I knew what to do. However, nothing I enter works?? I do just need to enter whose it was, right?
nvm...got it
ReplyDeleteHey Guys I'm back and can't guess lvl 7! Got the crown image but my answers won't work. Help. :D
ReplyDeletemkganda help me!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not Henry VII (the seventh) or Charles I (the first) or King or King of England. Help!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Nini!!! I didn't refresh and didn't see your comments! It's the 2nd one you mentioned in your last comment. Don't enter king and remember to use lowercase.
ReplyDeletec******i
Hope you get it soon b/c I'm sorting out 8, but getting nowhere.
ReplyDeletety mkganda on 8 now!
ReplyDeleteOh good! I need help. I thought I'd sorted them right, but am not getting a word. Are we getting a 12 letter word?
ReplyDeleteProbably mkganda.
ReplyDeleteDo we consider Angel a criminal or someone he didn't know? Angel was a made-up person by the real criminal right?
ReplyDeleteoh sry mkganda I'm playin lots of games at once and can't concentrate on this 1.
ReplyDeleteNeed help on 8 if anyone comes around.
ReplyDelete@mkganda (sorry I wasn't in here earlier):
ReplyDeleteLevel 8 is a 4-letter word.
Sherlock says he forms the word by COUNTing the people by category. This gives you a 4-digit number.
I did it by googling sherlock holmes plus each name.
For example, there is only one policeman, so the 3rd digit is a "1".
Then, convert the numbers to letters.
When you get this, maybe you can help me with level 9.
Going back - level 6 was converting everything to mm; not sure what that has to do with "unity" or "spans already told you what form".
ReplyDeleteI'm on lvl 9 now! Thx PuzzledinCA.
ReplyDeletePuzzled any ideas for 9? Got the name of the picture (insert_wierd_thing_here) but dunno what's the odd thing in the photo. We probably have to find it out and replace it on the picture URl.
ReplyDeleteHm.... The Adventure of the Misfit... maybe an object out of place?
ReplyDeleteLook at the picture in the upper left.
ReplyDeleteThat big wheel wasn't in London in Holme's time.
Names I've found are:
ReplyDeleteMillennium Wheel, London Eye (official name), Eye of London.
Just to get started ...
well.. but URL won't accept giant wheel.
ReplyDeleteGot it! replace to londoneye
ReplyDeleteOh, that's it! I thought that was a clue to something being pasted onto the picture!

ReplyDeleteHaha Got to the End! :P
ReplyDeleteOh, boohoo. I thought there was going to be 1 more puzzle. :(
ReplyDeleteI guess the start counted as a level!
Thanks, Nini xD!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've had the patience to get all the way through one of these.
Oh man! You guys finally come back and I wasn't here! Eating dinner soon so this will have to wait a little longer.
ReplyDelete@PuzzledinCA Thanks for the help! I guess I was half on the right track and half on the wrong one lol. I've got my names all sorted so when I can come back I should have no problem passing it.
Congrats to both of you for finishing! Hoping to join the ranks soon! :D
I finished!
ReplyDelete@author
Please do finish this one. I found looking around for S.Holmes clues really fun. Theme riddles are my favorite.
Thanks Nini and puzzledinCA for your helpful comments! :D
i'm not even through the "seaside adventure" level :(
ReplyDeletewhat i see:
lion
"seaside adventure"
and the name of the picture (l*t*n)
i never read the stories so i tried to look up the seaside adventure but all i found is some random fanfiction.
so i tried lion, sealion and some other animalnames (in l*t*n), in one word, no capital letters.
but nothing works.
some more help please. or a website where i can find more clues...
Google
ReplyDelete'The Adventure of the Lion's Mane'
Look for the latin name.
thank you!!! :)
ReplyDelete(that animal is a creep though)
@mumu: Also the name must be typed entirely in lower case and without and normal space, otherwise it will not be accepted. Wrong answers take you to a 404 page. Do not press enter after typing the name, instead click on the Login button.
ReplyDeleteAnother hint for someone trying to use google on the hints -- put "Sherlock" in front of the search. This should get you quickly to those relevant to Sherlock Holmes.
