One word - For anyone confused by the title, this game is based on the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
A pier is a straight [usually wooden] construction like a part bridge, that reaches out over a body of water; usually the sea, at coastal resorts.
Not sure what americans call them, but probably "dock".
In case anyone doesn't know, the Piper in the original middle ages fairy story uses a flute[pipe] to magically attract rats from the beseiged town of Hamelin, never to be seen again.
When the townsfolk renege on the deal of paying him, he uses his pipe to attract the town's children to the same fate.
To my knowledge, Hamelin has no pier =)
@Rookwings, I tend to think of dock as a wooden structure where boats tie up and pier as a wooden (or sometimes cement) structure that people fish from.
ReplyDeleteBoth seem to be used interchangeably in the US so I am not positive if my meanings are correct.
I think of dock to be used in lakes and rivers, and piers are found at oceans and bays... In essence; interchangeable! lol This discussion also brings to mind the old saying...

Ours are full of penny arcades, ice cream stands, "greasy-spoon" cafes and often with a theatre at the end, where burned-out once-popular comedians perform to an audience of sunburnt, sweaty holidaymakers wielding buckets and spades, who are determined to enjoy themselves and will laugh at just about anything [hence the popularity of the eternally awful "saucy seaside postcard"!
